SciTec Staff Network Systems Engineer in Boulder, Colorado

SciTec has an immediate opportunity for a talented engineer to support our programs delivering Next-Generation Missile Warning software. This is a unique opportunity to join a small business delivering core capabilities for National defense. You will work within a fast-paced team delivering end-to-end software processing of Overhead Persistent InfraRed (OPIR) sensor data for Missile Warning, Missile Defense, Battlespace Awareness, and Technical Intelligence.
We are seeking a Network Systems Engineer to support and evolve the networking foundation of an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) environment. This role focuses on designing, deploying, securing, and troubleshooting network services that enable compute, storage, virtualization, and cloud platforms across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure supporting IaaS platforms and services
Plan, deploy, and troubleshoot LAN, WAN, firewalls, DNS, VLANs, IP addressing (static and dynamic), and VPN solutions (site-to-site and remote access)
Configure, maintain, and patch Layer 2 / Layer 3 switching and routing
Troubleshoot networking issues across the OSI stack using physical and software-based diagnostic tools
Implement and maintain network security controls, including monitoring, hardening, threat modeling, and vulnerability mitigation
Support networking in on-prem, cloud, and hybrid environments, including AWS and Azure
Configure and maintain network protocols and technologies such as:
BGP
Spanning Tree
LLDP
Link aggregation (MCLAG, LACP)
Support storage networking, including SAN and Fibre Channel switched fabric topologies
Collaborate with systems, virtualization, storage, and platform engineers to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions
Support Linux and Windows-based networking and firewall configurations, including VMware environments
Participate in infrastructure planning, upgrades, and lifecycle management
Develop and maintain network documentation, diagrams, procedures, and change records
Support automation and repeatability efforts across network and infrastructure services
Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Own issues through resolution and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
3+ years of professional experience in network engineering or network systems roles
Demonstrated understanding of network architecture, design, and core networking concepts
Hands-on experience troubleshooting TCP/IP networks across OSI layers
Proficiency with network security principles, including monitoring, hardening, and common threat models
Experience deploying and supporting:
WAN, LAN, VLANs, firewalls, DNS
Static and dynamic IP addressing
Site-to-site and remote VPNs
Experience configuring and maintaining L2/L3 switching and routing
Working knowledge of Storage Area Networks (SANs) and Fibre Channel networking
Proficiency with Linux and Windows operating systems
Familiarity with application-layer networking and firewall configuration in Linux and VMware environments
Detail oriented
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to own work through completion
Candidates who have any of the following skills will be preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Network Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field
Experience with Dell switches, servers, and SAN solutions
Experience with VMware vSphere and vCenter
Security+ or equivalent security certification
Experience with NAS and/or SAN configuration and maintenance
Experience providing technical leadership or mentoring in small infrastructure teams
Experience with automation and scripting (Bash, Python, Perl, Ansible, PowerShell)
Experience with Git / GitLab and CI/CD pipelines
Familiarity with container platforms, including container networking and security
Demonstrated ability to document, track, and execute requirements, procedures, and infrastructure changes

The pay range for this position is $87,000 - $119,000 / year. SciTec considers several factors when extending an offer of employment, including but not limited to the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
