Job Description

The Protective Force Shift Supervisor NLR will lead the activities of a team of Protective Force Officers, ensuring the safety and security of NLR’s workers, visitors, facilities, and the environment. The Supervisor will manage the operations of the NLR Protective Force’s Day Shift (From 0700 to 1530), ensuring all PF personnel are effectively trained, supported, and supervised while fostering a positive and professional culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to a shift of Protective Force Officers, including training, coaching, counseling, performance management, recognition, team building, conflict resolution, and scheduling.

  • Lead the team with an emphasis on building a positive work culture that includes professionalism, respect and open communication.

  • Write and review Incident Reports, Shift Reports, and other documents for accuracy in details, grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.

  • Work in conjunction with Mission Support staff to ensure a high level of communications between Operations and Mission Support.

  • Contribute and participate in Limited Scope Performance Testing, exercises and drill planning and execution.

  • Contribute to Laboratory Protection document review and evaluation.

  • Conduct vehicle and foot patrol activities to observe and report.

  • Monitor and enforce NLR policies and procedures, DOE requirements, and applicable Federal regulations.

Basic Qualifications

Previous supervisory experience may be required. Certification and/or degree in specified field is required. Knowledge of legal and ethical management issues and practices. Strong understanding of applicable field of expertise. Strong task management and budgeting skills. Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, problem-solving and negotiation skills. Demonstrated ability to make appropriate decisions regarding day-to-day work activities. Promotes and models ethical and professional interpersonal and business behaviors. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, motivate and direct personnel with diverse skills, work styles and values.

Additional Required Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain a credential in accordance with the requirements of Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12, including an additional National Agency Checks with Indices background investigation and fingerprinting

  • Applicants must provide proof of a valid and current license to operate a motor vehicle.

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.

  • A minimum of seven years of experience in security, safety, or emergency response.

  • Ability to effectively train, lead, motivate, and appreciate personnel with diverse skills, work styles, and values.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to make appropriate decisions regarding day-to-day work activities.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Strong multitasking, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress situations, exercise critical thinking and sound judgment, and prioritize emergent and non-emergent situations.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and the ability to learn and use specialized software.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in handling both emergency situations and day-to-day activities.

  • Able to execute assignments with limited supervision

Preferred Qualifications

· Strong working knowledge of effective leadership practices and ability to apply them to both emergent and non-emergent situations.

· Prior experience in a security-related field such as criminal justice, military, homeland security, corrections, or industrial security.

· Knowledge of legal and ethical management issues and practices.

· Prior supervisory experience.

· Working knowledge of DOE O 473.2A, Protective Force Operations and 10 CFR 1046, Medical, Physical Readiness, Training, and Access Authorization Standards for Protective Force Personnel.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Job Profile: Manager I / Annual Salary Range: $76,600 - $126,400

NLR takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
