ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The AVP, Commercial Portfolio Manager (“PM”) serves as a primary credit partner to Relationship Managers and plays a key role in the execution and ongoing management of the Bank’s commercial lending relationships. This role is responsible for leading the underwriting, structuring, and portfolio management of commercial credit opportunities, from initial evaluation through approval and ongoing monitoring. The Portfolio Manager works closely with Relationship Managers to deliver responsive, well-structured credit solutions while maintaining strong asset quality and alignment with the Bank’s risk appetite. This position requires a balance of strong analytical capability, sound credit judgment, and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal stakeholders and clients.
Credit Underwriting & Deal Execution
Lead the underwriting and structuring of commercial credit opportunities, including evaluation of borrower strength, guarantor support, collateral position, repayment sources, and key risks
Take ownership of assigned credit opportunities, driving the process from initial structuring through approval, closing support, and ongoing monitoring
Along with Credit Analysts, prepare clear, well-structured credit approval packages, including identification of risks, mitigants, policy exceptions, recommended structure, and risk rating
Partner with Relationship Managers and senior credit leadership to develop appropriate loan structures, terms, and covenants
Apply advanced financial analysis, including trend analysis, ratio analysis, global cash flow analysis, and industry considerations
Present credit requests at Loan Committee and respond to questions as appropriate
Portfolio Management & Risk Oversight
Maintain accountability for the performance and quality of assigned loan portfolios
Monitor financial reporting, covenant compliance, collateral position, and overall credit risk
Identify early warning signs of deteriorating credit quality and recommend appropriate action
Coordinate and complete annual reviews, renewals, and other credit actions in a timely manner
Ensure accuracy of risk ratings and adherence to loan policy and approved structure
Partner with Relationship Managers and credit leadership on restructuring, extensions, or workout strategies when needed
Relationship Partnership & Client Support
Serve as a key credit partner to Relationship Managers in managing both new and existing client relationships
Collaborate with Relationship Managers and clients on appropriate loan structure and credit solutions
Participate in meetings with current and prospective clients, as appropriate, to support deal structuring and due diligence
Support the Bank’s consultative approach to relationship management, including onboarding new relationships and managing existing relationships
Serve as a trusted internal resource on credit-related matters
Credit Process & Execution
Coordinate with Credit Analysts to review financial spreads and ensure accuracy and completeness of underwriting
Work closely with loan administration, Relationship Managers, and clients to coordinate loan closings after all approval conditions are met
Assist in reviewing loan documentation prior to closing
Support timely movement of deals through the pipeline to ensure responsiveness and efficiency
Assist with construction loan monitoring processes as needed, including coordination with internal or third-party resources
Team Support & Collaboration
Provide guidance and support to Credit Analysts in underwriting, financial analysis, and credit presentation
Share knowledge and best practices with credit and lending team members
Collaborate with credit administration, operations, and lending teams to improve workflow and communication
Contribute to consistency and quality of credit work product across the team
Risk, Compliance & Market Awareness
Maintain knowledge of Bank policies, procedures, and applicable federal and state regulations
Ensure compliance with internal credit standards and regulatory requirements
Maintain awareness of market conditions, economic trends, and industry developments impacting borrowers
Support sound credit administration practices, including documentation, reporting, and file maintenance
Qualifications
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience
Approximately 5-10 years of experience in commercial credit, underwriting, or portfolio management
Strong experience analyzing financial statements, tax returns, and commercial credit structures
Solid understanding of commercial lending products, including commercial real estate and commercial & industrial lending
Strong reasoning and writing skills to efficiently communicate well supported rationale for all types of credit decisions and actions.
Exceptional oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence, speak clearly to customers and employees.
Strong skills in word processing and spreadsheet software.
Knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations, and Bank policies and procedures a plus.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work with little supervision while performing duties.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The position’s pay range starts anywhere between $90,000 and $115,000 annually
