Job Description Puget Sound Energy's Gas System Integrity (GSI) team is seeking a Data Scientist II to transform complex data into actionable insights that enhance the safety and reliability of our natural gas system. The GSI team manages over 26,000 miles of pipeline serving more than 880,000 customers. As a mission-critical group, we ensure the integrity of our infrastructure and deliver 100% reliability and safety. Over time, PSE has developed strategic models to identify and prioritize areas requiring the greatest attention. To advance these efforts, we have created a new role focused on analyzing large datasets, developing predictive models, and building tools that improve risk assessment, planning, and maintenance optimization. This position will support key initiatives such as risk modeling, asset management, and integrated system planning-ensuring our system remains safe, reliable, and efficient in a time of decarbonization. The ideal candidate will work independently on highly complex analytics projects, leveraging data from multiple sources (e.g., SAP BI, SAP HANA, ESRI, Excel, physical records) and applying advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to uncover insights and solve business challenges. Responsibilities include selecting appropriate data and methodologies, developing production-ready models, and delivering scalable solutions that forecast risks, enhance planning, and inform decision-making across the organization. Collaboration with subject matter experts is essential, requiring strong communication skills to translate technical findings into clear, actionable insights. The role also involves validating models against real-world conditions and creating intuitive visualizations to support business decisions. Successful candidates will demonstrate analytical creativity and expertise in advanced data science techniques, including regression, clustering, decision trees, random forests, and natural language processing (NLP). Job Responsibilities Develop production quality complex analytics and machine learning models where analysis of data requires the evaluation of a multitude of factors. Participate in data science mentoring efforts. Provides leadership for cross-functional projects and enterprise data and analytics solutions. Effectively communicates and collaborates across groups to provide insights to the organization. Collaborates and contributes to data science standards and methodologies. Collaborates and builds productive relationships with various internal and externa departments to understand departmental issues and provides solutions to moderately complex problems. Clarify business requests for assistance and document business requirements taking a broad perspective to identify solutions. Devise possible solutions and plan solution development. Enhance data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building user solutions by processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis.
