Jacobs Senior Substation Electrical Engineer in Boston, Massachusetts

Jacobs is seeking a Senior Substation Electrical Engineer - Power Systems and Equipment Discipline for our Boston, MA office. When you join us, you’ll be involved in projects with our Energy Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

The Senior Substation Electrical Engineer will have the opportunity to lead the Substation Electrical Engineering discipline within our Transmission & Distribution Team and be responsible for the following:

o Timely and on-budget delivery of the design packages relevant to their discipline

o Responsible for the quality of the package relevant to their discipline

o Works on multiple projects at the same time

o Efficiently manages a group of engineers to achieve the above three goals

o Responsible for guiding and mentoring the junior staff

o Provides their expert input to the projects

o Identifying the gaps in the expertise in their groups. Reports to the management and actively supports the efforts to ensure all areas of expertise necessary for successful project delivery have been covered.

o Coordinates the interfaces with other engineering disciplines

o Support the Project Engineer to achieve the overall project goals

o Represents the project and corresponding discipline in front of the client, in coordination with the Project Engineer

o Provides support to proposals

o Supports hiring process

o Supports the development of the quality management system

o Timely, and on-budget delivery of the projects

o Represent the project in front of the client, when necessary, supported by engineering leads and/or management

o Reporting and project management activities required by the Company or the client

o Support the management to achieve organization goals

• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to Jacobs' Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Facilities Engineering or closely related degree from a recognized institution

• A minimum of 15+ years’ post-education experience, preferably with extensive background in Transmission and Distribution & Power Substation systems within a transit system.

• Ability to inspect and design various high and low voltage power systems, power generation systems, alternating current & direct current distribution systems, traction power substations, unit substations and a 115kV transmission yard.

• Review and design power flow and coordination studies for the power generators, 115kV transmission, 15kV distribution and 600 VDC traction power systems.

• Ability to review and design SCADA systems for traction power substations, unit substations and 115kV switching yards.

• Knowledge of codes and standards such as NEC, IEEE and ANSI

• Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

• Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

• Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.

• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by Jacobs' health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

• Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Ideally you'll also have:

• Master’s Degree in Engineering

• P.E. Registration preferred or eligible for P.E. licensing
