Job Description
Position Summary
Boston Ship Repair is seeking skilled Outside Machinists to perform repair, maintenance, and overhaul work on a wide range of shipboard machinery. This role involves hands-on work in an active shipyard environment supporting vessel operations.
Key Responsibilities
Install, align, and repair pumps, motors, generators, propellers, shafting, bearings, compressors, and hydraulic systems
Operate, troubleshoot, and repair hydraulic equipment and systems
Use torque wrenches (metric and standard) to meet precise specifications
Perform alignments using dial indicators, micrometers, and other precision tools
Conduct dock and sea trials to verify equipment performance after repairs
Read and interpret blueprints, manuals, and job specifications
Set up and operate portable machine tools, including boring bars, drills, and grinders
Work on large vessels in an active shipyard environment
Safely perform work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying conditions
Qualifications
3–5 years of marine, industrial, or shipyard mechanical experience preferred
Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems and torque applications
Skilled in the use of hand tools, measuring instruments, and alignment equipment
Ability to read and follow technical drawings and detailed instructions
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in confined spaces
Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship

Shipyard and shipboard conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, noise, and moving equipment
Requires standing, climbing, kneeling, and lifting throughout the day
