Robert Half Director of Finance (Accounting) in Boston, Massachusetts
Description
We are seeking a hands‑on Director of Finance with a strong accounting focus to lead financial operations for a respected for‑profit educational institution. This role is ideal for a detail‑oriented accounting leader who owns transaction processing through month‑end close, manages accruals, and ensures timely, GAAP‑compliant financial reporting. Key Responsibilities
Own full-cycle accounting: AP, AR, payroll coordination, general ledger maintenance, and reconciliations.
Lead month‑end and year‑end close processes; prepare accurate accruals and journal entries.
Produce monthly financial statements, variance analysis, and management reports.
Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash‑flow monitoring.
Implement and maintain internal controls and accounting policies to ensure compliance.
Serve as primary liaison for external auditors and tax preparers; support audit processes.
Supervise and develop accounting staff; delegate transactional work and review deliverables.
Drive continuous improvement of accounting systems and processes (ERP experience preferred).
Partner with executive leadership on strategic financial initiatives and decision‑making.
Requirements
6+ years of progressive, hands-on accounting experience including transactional processing through close.
Demonstrated experience preparing and managing accruals.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal control best practices.
Proven ability to prepare financial statements and perform variance analyses.
Experience supervising accounting staff and improving process efficiency.
Proficiency with accounting software/ERP systems and Excel.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent strongly preferred.
Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
