Job Purpose
The Senior Operations Performance Analyst plays a critical role in supporting Herc Rentals’ logistics and broader operations teams through high quality reporting, dashboards, and analytical insights. For the first 12–18 months, this role will be primarily dedicated to supporting logistics as part of Project Overhaul, a major transformation initiative focused on operating, buying, and pricing better within logistics.
Following this period, the role will transition into a broader Operations performance function, supporting enterprise wide initiatives, KPI development, and continuous improvement efforts across the business.
The analyst will deliver performance trends, KPI insights, and data driven recommendations across transportation and operational metrics, while partnering cross functionally to drive measurable improvements.
What you will do...
LOGISTICS FOCUSED RESPONSIBILITIES (FIRST 12-18 MONTHS)
Serve as the primary point of contact for data-related requests between the FSC Logistics Team and the Project Overhaul team, ensuring alignment during periods where dual processes may temporarily coexist.
Learn and understand logistics processes in depth to better support data needs, performance measurement, and operational insights.
Develop, maintain, and enhance logistics reporting, dashboards, and KPI tracking to support Project Overhaul objectives.
Perform data validation, dashboard testing, and UAT to ensure reporting accuracy, completeness, and usability.
Conduct root cause analyses to identify drivers of performance issues and partner with stakeholders to develop corrective actions.
Support logistics teams in identifying service improvements, revenue opportunities, and cost-saving initiatives (e.g. route optimization, pricing, driver efficiency).
REPORTING, DASHBOARDS AND PERFORMANCE INSIGHTS
Develop and manage transportation and operations reporting including dashboards, weekly and monthly performance updates, trend analysis, and initiative tracking.
Gather reporting and dashboard requirements from stakeholders and translate business needs into clear KPIs and reporting outputs.
Evaluate data and reporting for accuracy, completeness, intent, and scope.
Identify and create new ways to visualize transportation and operational performance trends.
Frame business questions with stakeholders (what decision will be made, what levers exist, what good looks like) and translate them into measurable hypotheses, KPIs, and analytic approaches.
Build actionable performance narratives by linking trends to operational context such as seasonality, customer mix, branch or region differences, fleet availability, and routing constraints.
Conduct deep dive analyses using segmentation and driver trees (e.g. region or branch, customer, jobsite distance, asset class, driver, daypart) to identify contributors to cost, service issues, and missed revenue.
Perform root cause analysis on key logistics outcomes including on-time delivery and pickup, failed stops, utilization, empty miles, detention, overtime, and re-routes, and recommend countermeasures.
Quantify opportunity sizing and ROI for improvement ideas including labor productivity, routing and dispatch rules, network changes, pricing and fees, third-party mix, and preventive maintenance impacts.
Design and measure pilots or A-B tests where feasible and establish benefit tracking to confirm sustained impact.
Create executive-ready insight deliverables including one-page summaries, weekly highlights, risk and issue flags, and decision recommendations.
Partner with process owners to convert insights into standard work by defining metric owners, operating cadences, thresholds, alerts, and follow-up actions.
CROSS FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION AND DATA ALIGNMENT
Work cross functionally with Operations, IT, Finance, Fleet, and other teams to obtain, validate, and interpret data.
Act as a liaison with IT on integrations, data needs, system access, and analytics enablement.
Ensure reporting and data structures support both current logistics processes and future operational workflows.
