Jacobs Drainage Reviewer and Inspector - Fort Myers Beach or Bonita Springs in Bonita Springs, Florida

As a Drainage Inspector / Plans Reviewer, you’ll join a collaborative team ensuring that our clients can deliver their services uninterrupted. Based in Fort Myers Beach, or Bonita Springs, you’ll have the opportunity to perform drainage plan review and inspection for local jurisdictions in Southwest Florida at various stages of construction, alteration, and repair for compliance with applicable state and local codes as well as conformance with project conditions; visit premises and provide information and assistance to owners, developers and departments or divisions of the jurisdiction to gain conformance to codes and report findings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead department liaison for specific site permits.
Reviews site plans, drainage plans, utility plans, driveways and building permit requests.
Interprets codes and regulations; reviews, researches, and communicates results in determining applicable codes/ordinances; explains required inspections, construction requirements and construction and repair methods and materials to owners, architects, engineers, contractors, and the public; advises owners on matters related to building permits; investigates and resolves drainage related complaints.
Performs site inspections in accordance with local, regional, state, and federal codes. Inspections may include areas related to erosion sedimentation and pollution control, grading, drainage, roadways, parking, and utility work.
Attends and participates in pre-application and pre-construction meetings with applicants
Maintains a variety of files and records related to areas of assignment including permit binders, records of inspections made and actions taken, and plans; inputs and retrieves information from computer databases; prepares reports, correspondence, and a variety of other written materials as requested.
Performs other duties as assigned and/or required from time to time.

One (1) year experience in general construction or related field
Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, blueprints and specifications, records of surveys, and legal descriptions.
Knowledge of drainage systems, land development, grading, drainage, excavation, fill materials, soil stabilization, vegetation, paving and road construction.
Familiarity with local policies and procedures, sediment and control, and infrastructure construction process.
Good communication skills, both oral and written.
Good computer use skills and familiar with word processing and spread sheet software.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Must possess a valid State driver’s license on date of hire
Current valid REAL ID driver’s license with no major infractions
Job requires 50% travel
Ideally, here’s what you will also have:
Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to drainage and site construction.
Knowledge of and ability to apply code compliance methods and inspection techniques
Knowledge of and ability to apply development community and contractor practices
Ability to communicate technical information and requirements in a clear and accurate fashion both verbally and in writing
Ability to enforce codes evenly and fairly without prejudice, preferential treatment, or malice
Ability to make field decisions based on adopted codes, ordinances, policies, and standards
Ability to request assistance from other department staff about alternate approval options and department operations needed for job performance
Ability to be assertive as the situation demands; ability to work with angry people, defuse potentially hostile situations, and resolve disputes in the interest of code compliance in a respectful manner
Ability to meet deadlines and organize daily work effectively and in cooperation with other staff
Ability to read plans and specifications to evaluate actual construction consistency and compliance with approved plans and code provisions
Ability to learn and teach specialty inspection skills and code requirements to
other inspectors * Ability to adapt to emerging techniques, technologies, and codes, and keep proficient in currently adopted codes
