This role oversees a large semiconductor construction project in Boise, Idaho, with a strong focus on mechanical construction and complex plumbing systems. The Mechanical Project Manager leads cross-functional teams in design, engineering, project management, and business services to ensure the successful execution of major construction work. The position combines technical expertise, financial and schedule management, and client relationship building, while mentoring project engineers and coordinators in a fast-paced, competitive construction market.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage high-performing project teams across design, engineering, project management, and business services to deliver complex mechanical construction projects.

  • Own and manage project estimates, scoping, proposals, safety planning, and overall execution while meeting or exceeding profitability goals.

  • Accurately estimate mechanical work and understand mechanical systems costing and value analysis to support sound financial decisions.

  • Oversee and communicate the plumbing scope, ensuring designs and installations align with project requirements and budgets.

  • Collaborate closely with engineering staff to ensure complete designs, clearly defined scope, and adherence to budget constraints.

  • Work with manufacturing and fabrication teams to coordinate mechanical installations and shop work packages, ensuring efficient sequencing and delivery.

  • Participate in coordination and business development activities to help secure new work and maintain strong client relationships.

  • Develop and maintain positive, long-term relationships with clients through proactive, professional communication and reliable project delivery.

  • Estimate and negotiate change orders, ensuring accurate pricing, documentation, and timely approval.

  • Track, forecast, and report labor hours and material costs to maintain control over project budgets and schedules.

  • Purchase and manage major equipment and subcontracts, including expediting and tracking deliveries to meet project milestones.

  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of project contracts, drawings, and specifications, and ensure compliance with all standards and contractual requirements.

  • Plan, organize, and schedule project work for field labor and fabrication shop activities, coordinating sequencing for mechanical installations.

  • Ensure full compliance with safety programs and promote a strong safety culture across the project team and jobsite.

  • Respond to and manage RFIs, submittals, and change orders, maintaining clear documentation and communication with stakeholders.

  • Use project management and construction software tools to manage documents, schedules, budgets, and communication effectively.

  • Mentor and coach project engineers and project coordinators, providing guidance, feedback, and support for their professional development.

  • Communicate proactively and professionally with internal teams, subcontractors, and clients, providing regular updates on progress, risks, and opportunities.

  • Uphold core values, demonstrate a results-driven work ethic, and maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.

Essential Skills

  • 1+ years of experience as a Mechanical Project Manager or 5+ years of experience as a Mechanical Project Engineer in construction.

  • Hands-on experience with mechanical construction, including HVAC, plumbing, and process piping.

  • High level of technical competency in plumbing scope, including the ability to read and understand drawings for complex plumbing systems.

  • In-depth understanding of mechanical installation sequencing for large commercial or industrial projects.

  • Proven experience managing and coaching project engineers in a construction environment.

  • Strong background in estimation of mechanical work, including takeoffs, bidding, and budget development.

  • Working knowledge of RFIs, submittals, and change order processes within construction projects.

  • Experience in commercial construction and project management for large-scale facilities.

  • Ability to understand and communicate basic mechanical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Advanced organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.

  • Exceptional attention to detail, recognizing that errors can result in significant financial impacts.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills for effective interaction with clients, teams, and subcontractors.

  • Results-driven work ethic with a focus on meeting deadlines, budgets, and quality standards.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to foster a positive, collaborative working environment.

  • Advanced computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint, Autodesk Construction Cloud or similar platforms such as Procore, and Viewpoint Vista.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with budgeting, cost tracking, and financial forecasting for mechanical construction projects.

  • Familiarity with construction management practices for large semiconductor or advanced manufacturing facilities.

  • Experience using project management tools for scheduling, document control, and forecasting.

  • Ability to negotiate with clients, vendors, and subcontractors, particularly regarding change orders and major purchases.

  • Strong relationship-building skills to support business development and repeat client work.

  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, competitive construction market with evolving project demands.

  • Motivation to grow within the mechanical construction industry and expand experience in semiconductor and chip manufacturing projects.

Work Environment

This is an onsite role based at a large semiconductor project in Boise, Idaho, working closely with a dedicated project team. The position is salaried, with an expectation of approximately 50 hours per week, and offers time-and-a-half pay for Saturday work. The environment is fast-paced and highly collaborative, involving frequent coordination with field crews, fabrication shops, engineers, and project stakeholders. You will use a modern technology stack, including MS Office, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, cloud collaboration tools (OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint), Autodesk Construction Cloud or similar platforms such as Procore, and Viewpoint Vista to manage project information and communication. The setting combines office-based tasks with regular presence on an active construction site, supporting a large chip manufacturing facility in a competitive and growing construction market.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Boise, ID.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $105000.00 - $158125.00/hr.
