Central District Health (CDH) (https://cdh.idaho.gov/) is searching for a motivated individual to join our dedicated group of public health professionals as an Environmental Health Specialist, Senior, with our Environmental Health Lands Program (https://cdh.idaho.gov/licenses-permits-inspections/water-septic-subdivisions/) . This position is based in our Boise office.

Typical Duties:
Public Water System (PWS) Program:
Management of the PWS Program for CDH;
Understanding of the Idaho State Public Drinking Water Regulations and the PWS contract as they apply to assigned public water systems;
Enforcement of the PWS regulations and conducting Sanitary Surveys and Ground Water Under Direct Influence of Surface Water (GWIDI) inspections of the vulnerable water systems located in Ada, Boise, Elmore, and Valley Counties;
Communicating and coordinating with other government agencies regarding environmental health laws and policies;
Representing CDH in meetings, conferences and trainings;
Completes data entry of lab reports, corrective actions, monitoring waivers and seasonal start-up procedures for Public Water Systems within the district;
Communicates time-sensitive information through phone calls, emails and letters.
Land Programs:
Evaluates soil types for placement and sizing of individual sewage disposal systems; reviews and permits the installation of new and replacement systems; and consults and provides information to landowners and developers for well and septic placement when planning a subdivision or lot splits;
Evaluates environmental health conditions through inspections, surveys, and investigations of water supplies, sewage disposal systems, land development and recreation sites for compliance with laws, regulations, and standards;
Conducts tests and analyzes results to determine levels of pollution or contamination; operates and maintains specialized testing equipment and detection devices;
Utilizing independent judgment and evaluation while reviewing plans, conducting inspections, and conducting investigations;
Enforces compliance through warning letters, citations, notices of violation, permit suspensions and revocations;
Consults with local, state, and federal officials in drafting and promoting adoption of regulations and policies for environmental practices;
Analyzes and comments on environmental assessments, policies, regulations, and legislation;
Promotes public awareness and acceptance of environmental laws, regulations, and standards;
Communicates with other governing agencies regarding environmental health laws and policies;
Operates and maintains testing equipment, instruments, and detection devices used during inspection and data analysis;
Provides technical assistance regarding control and correction of environmental practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences;
OR successful completion of a college level algebra or higher math course and 30 semester/45 quarter hours in the basic sciences, i.e. biology, chemistry, physics, or other physical sciences as well as sanitary engineering or environmental engineering;
At least two years of public health experience with an agency to include inspecting facilities and enforcing ordinances, rules, and statutes in at least one of the following programs: food, on-site sewage, day care, swimming pools, nuisance complaints, solid waste, home loan surveys, public drinking water, or vector control;
Registered with the National Environmental Health Association (https://www.neha.org/rehs-rs-credential) as a registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS).
