APTIM Coastal Engineering Program Manager in Boca Raton, Florida

This role may be based in one of our dynamic office locations or performed remotely.

As a senior leader within our Critical Infrastructure Program, you will oversee a diverse portfolio of coastal engineering projects, manage multidisciplinary teams, and cultivate strategic client and partner relationships. Our team delivers innovative solutions in beach nourishment, shoreline protection, coastal resiliency, living shorelines, and ecosystem restoration. You will play a pivotal role in shaping program strategy, ensuring technical excellence, and driving operational and business performance.

Representative Program Areas

  • Regional beach nourishment and sediment management programs (dredge and truck haul).

  • Coastal and marine infrastructure including jetties, groins, seawalls, revetments, breakwaters, docks, and piers.

  • Living shoreline and ecosystem restoration initiatives.

  • Coastal resiliency planning, vulnerability assessments, and adaptation strategies.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Program Leadership and Strategy:

  • Lead APTIM's coastal engineering program, overseeing a portfolio of projects across Florida, the Gulf Coast, and the Eastern Seaboard.

  • Develop and implement program strategies that align with APTIM's growth objectives, market priorities, and client needs.

  • Manage program performance, including financial health, resource planning, risk management, and long‑range forecasting.

  • Support the Director of Civil and Coastal Engineering in shaping practice direction, staffing plans, and operational improvements

Project and Portfolio Management:

  • Oversee multiple concurrent coastal engineering projects, ensuring delivery on scope, schedule, budget, and quality.

  • Guide project teams through feasibility studies, design development, permitting, and construction phases.

  • Provide senior oversight on technical analyses, modeling, design reviews, and QA/QC processes.

  • Coordinate with internal teams, subconsultants, and clients to ensure seamless execution across disciplines.

Client Engagement and Business Development:

  • Strengthen and expand client relationships with federal, state, and local agencies, as well as private and NGO partners.

  • Lead business development efforts, including opportunity identification, capture planning, proposal development, and selection presentations.

  • Represent APTIM at conferences, technical organizations, and industry forums to elevate visibility and thought leadership.

Team Leadership and Staff Development:

  • Manage and mentor a growing team of coastal engineers, scientists, and technical specialists.

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high‑performance culture that supports staff development and retention.

  • Provide coaching, technical guidance, and career development opportunities for emerging leaders.

Technical and Field Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the application of coastal engineering tools and numerical models to support program needs.

  • Review and approve technical deliverables including engineering reports, specifications, regulatory applications, and design packages.

  • Support field activities such as site inspections, surveys, and construction observations as needed.

  • Encourage innovation in tools, technology, and methodologies to advance APTIM's coastal capabilities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in coastal or marine engineering, program management, or related leadership roles.

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Coastal Engineering required; advanced degree preferred.

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Florida or ability to obtain within 90 days.

  • Deep understanding of Florida's coastal and marine environments, regulatory frameworks, and project delivery landscape.

  • Experience with coastal numerical modeling, CAD/GIS tools, and data analysis platforms (e.g., MATLAB) preferred.

  • Demonstrated success in program or project leadership, staff management, and client relationship development.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills suitable for a consulting and client‑facing environment.

  • Experience preparing proposals, leading pursuits, and supporting business development initiatives.

  • Ability to travel approximately 25% for client meetings, field work, and program oversight.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $170K-$205K. Compensation depends on several factors including: experience, education, key skills, geographic location of the position, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity among other employees within APTIM.
