Job Title: Back Office Float Medical AssistantJob Description

The back office float medical assistant provides high-quality, team-based patient care in a pediatric primary care setting, supporting clinicians and care management teams with both clinical and administrative functions. This role promotes health and wellness in a safe, friendly environment by assisting with chronic disease management, patient examinations, and treatments, while performing a full range of laboratory testing procedures and phlebotomy tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver team-based patient care under the direct supervision of a clinician in a pediatric primary care clinic.

  • Support clinicians and care management teams in assessing patients, maintaining chronic disease management, and assisting with examinations and treatments.

  • Perform all laboratory testing procedures in the clinic lab in accordance with established protocols and quality standards.

  • Conduct phlebotomy procedures, including venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks, ensuring patient safety and comfort.

  • Collect, label, and handle blood and other specimens accurately, following universal precautions and medical safety practices.

  • Take and document patient vital signs, with an emphasis on manual vitals when needed.

  • Use electronic medical records (EMR), including TriMed EMR when applicable, to document patient information and clinical activities accurately and efficiently.

  • Apply knowledge of laboratory quality control requirements to ensure accurate and reliable test results.

  • Use basic medical terminology appropriately in documentation and communication with clinical staff.

  • Assess emergency situations and respond appropriately according to clinical protocols and safety procedures.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, clinical staff, and other employees to maintain effective working relationships.

  • Float between multiple clinic locations as patient volume and scheduling demands, maintaining flexibility and reliability.

  • Demonstrate independence, responsibility, and organization in managing daily tasks and prioritizing workload.

  • Adhere to universal precaution procedures and infection control standards at all times.

  • Contribute to a safe, welcoming, and patient-centered environment for children and their families.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma.

  • Medical assistant diploma OR Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential OR at least 3 years of medical assistant experience with Medical Assistant job titles.

  • Phlebotomy experience, including venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks.

  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Active driver’s license.

  • Ability to take patient vital signs, with manual vital signs preferred.

  • Knowledge of laboratory quality control requirements.

  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.

  • Knowledge of universal precaution procedures and medical safety practices.

  • Strong phlebotomy skills and specimen collection techniques.

  • Ability to assess emergencies and act accordingly.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.

  • Flexibility to float between clinic locations based on patient queue demands.

  • Ability to work independently, demonstrating responsibility and strong organizational skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bilingual English–Spanish skills preferred but not required.

  • Experience using TriMed EMR or similar electronic medical record systems.

  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to changing work environments and patient volumes.

  • Interest in working in a pediatric primary care environment and providing compassionate care to children and families.

Work Environment

This role is 100% onsite in a pediatric primary care clinic laboratory environment. The schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, plus every other Saturday from 7:45 AM to 12:00 PM, averaging approximately 42.5 hours in week one and 46.75 hours in week two. The position requires floating between multiple clinic locations within the region as patient volumes and scheduling needs change. The work involves frequent interaction with children, families, clinicians, and staff in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting. The environment includes standard clinical and laboratory equipment, with strict adherence to universal precautions, infection control, and laboratory safety practices. Professional clinical attire appropriate for a pediatric primary care and lab setting is expected.

This is a Permanent position based out of Boca Raton, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20000.00 - $35000.00/yr.
