Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Academic Advisor I - Boca Raton, FL.
The Academic Advisor I supports student success by providing high‑quality academic advising to Social Work and Criminal Justice students from initial contact through graduation. This role helps students navigate university and college policies, monitors academic progress, and offers proactive guidance to ensure timely degree completion. The advisor also participates in recruitment and orientation activities, maintains accurate student records, makes appropriate referrals, and collaborates with campus partners to promote retention and achievement. Other responsibilities are carried out as needed to support effective and student‑centered advising services.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Reinforce and support student degree progress, academic success and retention, in alignment with the strategic priorities of the college.
Help create and sustain an environment in which all students have access to high quality advising.
Assist all College of Social Work & Criminal Justice students through the academic process from initial contact to graduation.
Clear student advising holds in preparation for course registration.
Assist students with exploring and gathering information on University and College policies, procedures and degree requirements.
Serve as an academic advisor in providing academic advising and program guidance to Social Work & Criminal Justice students.
Make appropriate referrals to students perceived as at-risk and acts as an advocate as appropriate.
Monitor student academic plans to provide timely, proactive outreach to ensure degree progress and timely graduation using defined learning outcomes.
Reinforce and supports student degree progress, academic success, and retention in alignment with the university's strategic goals and initiatives.
Participate in student recruitment and onboarding activities for on and off-campus events, and assists with orientation programs.
Process Application for Degrees for timely graduation.
Direct students to the appropriate university office for assistance with concerns that do not fall within the purview of Social Work & Criminal Justice Advising Services.
Maintain the college academic files for students in relevant college degree programs.
Recognize the importance of key performance indicators and work competently with available software and technology to facilitate timely and data-driven advising.
Work collaboratively with multiple units across the university.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization required.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
Appreciative Advising Certification.
Strong verbal and written communication skills essential for success in this role.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.
Exceptional customer service abilities, along with strong organizational and time management skills.
A background in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or Counseling.
Experience using student information systems and degree audit software, such as Banner/DARS or Workday.
Salary:
$55,000 annually.

Monday - Friday, consisting of four days from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and one day from 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m., some weekends as needed.
