This role focuses on operating CNC mills, lathes, and grinders to produce precision parts that consistently meet customer specifications and high production standards in a job shop environment, where individual parts may take days to complete rather than being produced in high-volume runs.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC mills, lathes, and grinders to manufacture precision components according to engineering drawings and customer specifications.

  • Set up CNC machines, including installing and adjusting tooling, fixtures, and workholding to prepare for production runs.

  • Perform tooling changes and changeovers efficiently to support varying part requirements in a job shop environment.

  • Edit CNC programs using G and M codes to fine-tune machining operations and ensure parts meet dimensional and quality requirements.

  • Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings to determine machining processes, dimensions, tolerances, and finishes.

  • Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments to inspect parts and verify compliance with tight tolerances of ±0.001 inches.

  • Maintain close tolerances and high-quality standards throughout the machining process, making adjustments as needed to correct deviations.

  • Perform machine setups for different jobs, including zeroing machines, setting offsets, and verifying proper tooling and workpiece alignment.

  • Utilize drill presses and other shop equipment as needed to support machining and secondary operations.

  • Apply knowledge of GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing) to ensure parts are machined to the correct form, fit, and function.

  • Monitor machine performance during operation, troubleshoot issues, and make minor mechanical adjustments to maintain productivity and quality.

  • Work effectively in a collaborative, growth-oriented team environment, communicating status, challenges, and improvement ideas.

  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area in a climate-controlled manufacturing facility.

  • Lift materials and tooling up to 50 pounds as needed to support machine setup and production activities.

Essential Skills

  • 6–8 years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing or job shop setting.

  • Proven ability to set up CNC machines, including tooling selection, fixture setup, and machine zeroing.

  • Hands-on experience performing tooling changes and changeovers for varied parts and jobs.

  • Ability to complete CNC program edits using G and M codes to refine operations and correct issues.

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and engineering drawings.

  • Demonstrated ability to use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools accurately.

  • Experience working in a job shop environment where individual parts may take days to complete, rather than high-volume production machining.

  • Capability to hold and maintain tight tolerances of ±0.001 inches on machined components.

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely and regularly as part of daily tasks.

  • Familiarity with machine setup, including offsets, tooling, and workholding.

  • Understanding of machining processes on mills and lathes and their application to different materials.

  • Basic mechanical aptitude to make minor machine adjustments and support reliable operation.
