CED Precision Machining Machinist in Bloomsdale, Missouri

Summary

The primary job function of a Machinist is operating CNC machines to produce precision metal parts. They may produce small batches or large quantities of parts, and ensure products meet precise specifications in a fast pace environment.

Essential Functions

Operate machine tools such as lathes, and milling machines to produce parts in a variety of materials

Review blueprints or specifications for a job and create setup instructions.

Calculate where to cut or bore.

Determine the speed of tooling and speed the workpiece is fed into machine.

Determine how much material to remove.

Select tools and materials for the job.

Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations.

Mark the workpiece to show where cuts should be made.

Position workpiece on the lathe or milling machine.

Monitor and control feed rate and speed.

Ensure workpiece is properly lubricate and/or cooled.

Detect problems by observation and listening for specific sounds.

Adjust cutting speed to compensate for harmonic vibrations.

Monitor the accuracy of cuts.

Replace dull cutting tools.

Check accuracy of work against blueprints and specifications.

Produce large quantities of parts.

Determine how automated equipment will cut a part.

Determine cutting path.

Concert path, speed, and feed information into set of instructions for machine tool.

Use manual and computer-controlled machinery.

Write basic programs.

Modify programs in response to problems.

Perform other essential duties as directed by a supervisor.

Required Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have strong organizational, communication and multitasking skills. The qualifications may include:

Vocational school or apprenticeship preferred

Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy, and attention to detail.

Great verbal and written communication skills.

Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders, etc.)

Ability to use precision tools (e.g. micrometer and calipers) to take accurate measurements.

Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals.
