Job Title: Sheet Metal Technician

Job Description

Join our Capital Planning & Facilities team dedicated to creating, maintaining, and preserving a functional and sustainable campus. As a Sheet Metal Technician, you will be responsible for installing and maintaining sheet metal across the campus, with a primary focus on hand railings, among other facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform metal repairs on mobile or stationary equipment.

  • Trim, file, grind, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces, seams, and joints of assembled parts using hand tools and portable power tools.

  • Install door hinges, panic bars, thresholds, motorized projector screens and mounts, and toilet partitions.

  • Maintain kitchen equipment, roof gutters, and overhead doors.

  • Install and repair roofing and flashing materials.

  • Drill and punch holes in metal for screws, bolts, and rivets.

  • Fasten seams and joints together with welds, bolts, cements, rivets, solders, caulks, metal drive clips, and bonds to assemble components or repair sheet metal items.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in sheet metal, stick welding, and blueprint reading.

  • Experience in MIG/TIG welding with at least 2 years of experience.

  • Proficient in roofing, rooftop, TPO, and TPO Roofing.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in fabricating and installing sheet metal.

  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including moving objects weighing up to 75 pounds.

Work Environment

Based out of a Fabrication Shop off-campus, this role may require remaining stationary and climbing ladders or stairs. Be prepared to work in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, and ice, especially when the department is needed to ensure campus safety. The standard shift is Monday to Friday, from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bloomington, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.60 - $32.00/hr.
