WSP USA Portfolio Associate Director - Water Advisory in Birmingham, United Kingdom

What if you could do the kind of work the world needs?

At WSP, you can access our global scale, contribute to landmark projects and connect with the brightest minds in your field to do the best work of your life. You can embrace your curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas and diverse perspectives. You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you.

A little more about your role…

This is an exciting opportunity to take on a pivotal portfolio leadership role within our Water Advisory team. As Portfolio Director, you will help shape the success of a growing and high impact portfolio, with oversight of opportunities and projects owned by Water Advisory, alongside visibility of work delivered by the team in partnership with other disciplines.

You will play a key role in connecting work winning, project delivery, and leadership, helping to bring greater clarity, consistency, and confidence to how opportunities are pursued and how projects are delivered. This is a role for someone who enjoys combining strategic oversight with practical leadership, and who is motivated by helping teams deliver great outcomes for clients and communities.

In this role, you will help strengthen opportunity triage and governance, support multidisciplinary bid teams, monitor performance across live projects, and step in early where delivery or commercial risks begin to emerge. You will also help create a more transparent view of the portfolio through clear reporting, leadership updates and high quality case studies that demonstrate value across the business.

Alongside your portfolio responsibilities, you may also provide project management or project director leadership on selected commissions, giving you the chance to stay close to delivery while influencing the wider direction and performance of the service line.

Your team

You will join our Water Advisory team within Sustainable Water Management and report directly to the Service Line Director. This is a highly visible role with the opportunity to work closely with technical leads, Project Managers, Project Directors, Operations and Commercial teams, as well as wider leadership across the business.

It is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys building strong relationships, improving how things work and helping create the conditions for both project success and sustainable growth. While there are no immediate line management responsibilities, there is scope for this role to help shape and grow capability within a developing service line over time.

We’d love to hear from you if you have

  • Experience leading or overseeing a portfolio of opportunities and projects in a consultancy, infrastructure or professional services environment.

  • Strong track record in opportunity shaping, governance and bid support, including bringing together multidisciplinary teams around the right opportunities.

  • Experience monitoring project performance across delivery, budget, margin and commercial outcomes, with the judgement to support early intervention where risks emerge.

  • The ability to build trusted relationships with technical, operational, commercial and leadership stakeholders.

  • Experience providing project management or project director leadership where needed

  • The ability to communicate clearly through briefings, updates and portfolio insights that support informed decision making.

  • A collaborative and inclusive leadership style, with a focus on quality outcomes for clients, teams and the wider business.

Don’t quite meet all the criteria? Apply, and we can see how your experience aligns with this role and other opportunities within the team.
