Actalent Electrical Engineer in Birmingham, Alabama

Description

Southern Company Services is seeking an entry-level engineer for its Transmission Protection & Control Department. This position is focused on the design and application of Substation Integration and Automation (SIA) systems for Southern Company's transmission and distribution substations. The engineer will learn to provide application and configuration files used to setup the SCADA, remote engineering access, and transfer of other information needed from the substation for capital improvement projects with emphasis on safety, quality, schedule and costs. The position will also be involved in the process of working out technical problems that arise and determining the best solutions for Southern Company Transmission. Major Job Responsibilities Include: Ability to create configuration files that best utilize Southern Company SIA standards Provide detail configuration files & engineering field support for construction and commissioning personnel Be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.) Ability to develop effective plans, establish goals, and monitor progress toward task completion Knowledge and technical understanding of operational purpose and application of substation equipment Ability to understand and analyze Digital communication circuits Position will support Southern Company storm restoration efforts Support operations and construction functions to ensure a reliable, safe and secure power system Develop SIA schemes that support the operation of an efficient & dependable power system Handle multiple projects simultaneously, setting priorities, and using effective time management and organizational skills to achieve project team goals

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering Emphasis in Electrical Engineering Relevant Coursework would include Power System Analysis, Protective Relaying, Control Systems, and Digital Electronics Previous work experience- doesn't have to be engineering related. Manager wants to see someone who has a work ethic. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of basic Electrical Power System Theory is required Working knowledge of Digital Communications, including DNP, SES92 , SELFM is highly preferred . Working knowledge of CAD Strong computer, time management & excellent communication skills (oral & written)

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
