Guthrie Registered Dietitian- OP in Binghamton, New York
Position Summary:
To provide medical nutrition therapy, counseling and education in the outpatient setting. This may include but is not limited to diabetes education, weight management, renal disease, malnutrition, gastrointestinal disorders, cancer and cardiovascular disease. Act as a resource person in clinical nutrition for medical staff and the interdisciplinary team in the outpatient setting and the community. Adheres to departmental policies and procedures. Complies with regulatory requirements including State Department of Health and Joint Commission standards.
Education, License & Cert:
Master’s Degree (if credentialed after 2024-required) or a B.S in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Service Management, or related sciences with completion from an Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics approved Internship or Coordinated Undergraduate Program. Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Licensed by the State Dietetics Licensing/Credentialing Board.
Experience:
Prefer 2 years clinical experience. Previous experience working with EPIC(EMR) also preferred. Skills: Competent in all skills of nutrition. Will have basic computer skills, Microsoft preferred. Ability to prioritize work. Must have interpersonal skills to handle confidential information, sensitive situations, and ability to work with diverse groups of people within and outside the organization. Work cooperatively with peers and supervisors to contribute to the team's overall productivity.
Essential Functions:
Receives nutrition referrals from providers for medical nutrition therapy in the outpatient setting.
Nutrition care of individual patients
Provides medical nutrition therapy including nutrition assessment, diet modification, nutrition education, and intervention for individuals across the lifespan, i.e., infants through geriatrics and a diversity of people, cultures, and religions.
Reviews patient medical record including primary care and specialty care documentation, anthropometrics, weight history, available labs, medications, and any other pertinent data relating to nature of referral.
Utilizes motivational interviewing to formulate patient-centered, individualized nutrition interventions to achieve patient goals.
Documents nutritional assessment, diagnosis (as applicable), intervention, monitoring and education in EMR.
Documents a plan for follow up visit as needed.
Communication with members of the patient’s care team
Provides message to referring provider on RD visit.
Refer patients to appropriate supportive community services/agencies, as needed.
Provides group nutrition classes when applicable, utilizing effective verbal communication and educational approaches.
Submit daily charges for services provided.
