Job Title: Paint Technician – 2nd Shift

Job Description

The Paint Technician on 2nd shift supports the finishing process by performing detailed paint preparation work, including masking, de-masking, sanding, and basic inspection of metal parts. This role focuses on learning and developing the skills needed to progress into a manufacturing painter position, working closely with experienced painters in an industrial environment that uses powder coat and liquid paint processes.

Responsibilities

  • Apply tape and protective paper to product parts to protect areas that must not be painted.

  • Install plugs in holes and openings of metal parts to prevent paint from entering critical areas.

  • Remove masking materials such as tape and protective paper from painted parts after the finishing process.

  • Sand metal parts to remove imperfections and prepare surfaces for painting.

  • Learn powder coating and liquid painting techniques under supervision to build manufacturing painter skills.

  • Perform quality inspections on parts during the paint preparation process to ensure they meet specifications.

  • Maintain accurate inventory of masking supplies, including tape, protective paper, and plugs.

  • Follow written and verbal work instructions and diagrams related to product mix and paint prep processes.

  • Work effectively as part of a production team to meet quality and schedule requirements.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in and around the paint prep and paint booth areas.

  • Adhere to all safety procedures when working around industrial paint equipment, spray guns, and related machinery.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Ability to read and follow specific directions related to product mix and paint preparation.

  • Manual dexterity to handle small parts, tape, plugs, and sanding tools with precision.

  • Troubleshooting skills to identify and correct basic issues in the paint prep process.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a manufacturing environment.

  • Adaptability to various tasks, priorities, and changing production needs.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills to coordinate work and manage materials.

  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently when required.

  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and desire to learn and develop into a manufacturing painter.

  • Comfort working with industrial painting tools and equipment such as spray guns, paint booths, and powder coating systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Interest or experience in industrial painting, powder coating, or paint prep is beneficial.

  • Familiarity with industrial environments involving heavy equipment and machinery.

  • Ability to consistently lift up to 50 pounds using proper ergonomic techniques.

  • Capacity to stand for extended periods, typically six or more hours per day, with occasional sitting as needed.

  • Attention to detail when masking, sanding, and inspecting metal parts.

  • Willingness to follow structured training, coaching, and step-by-step instructions.

Work Environment

This role is based in a modern manufacturing facility that supports customers across a broad range of North American industries. You work around heavy equipment, machinery, and industrial paint systems, including spray guns, paint booths, and powder coating equipment, with associated noise levels typical of a production environment. The position is primarily performed standing for six or more hours per day, with some tasks completed while seated for short periods. You regularly handle metal parts and masking materials and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds using proper ergonomic techniques. The facility is well maintained with excellent lighting and clear, interactive instructions in each department to guide daily tasks and training. You work on a 2nd shift schedule in a production setting that emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and teamwork.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Binghamton, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
