Billings School District 2 Mentor Coordinator in Billings, Montana
Billings School District 2 is seeking a Mentor Coordinator (Check & Connect Coordinator) to oversee implementation of the Check & Connect mentoring intervention across Billings Public Schools. This role is responsible for recruiting and supervising mentors, training staff, monitoring fidelity to the model, supporting data collection and evaluation, and building collaborative relationships between schools, families, and community partners. The Coordinator ensures that students at risk of disengagement are systematically monitored ('Check') and provided with timely, personalized interventions ('Connect') that foster resilience, belonging, academic achievement, and progress toward graduation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Recruit, train, coach and coordinate Check & Connect volunteer mentors. • Provide ongoing coaching, professional development, and technical assistance. • Conduct regular site visits to support mentors and address case-specific challenges. • Monitor data and effectiveness of mentoring program • Ensure fidelity through coaching and support, non-evaluative, to the Check & Connect model, including use of monitoring tools, intervention strategies, and documentation. • Establish referral procedures with school administrators, counselors, teachers, and MTSS teams to identify students at risk of disengagement. • Assign students to mentors and ensure smooth transitions for mobile students. • Monitor students' attendance, academic performance, and behavioral data to identify early warning signs of disengagement. • Collaborate with mentors to utilize interventions and problem-solving strategies for students. • Facilitate communication and regular meetings among students, families, mentors, and school staff. • Support and/or organize family partnership activities and support connections to community resources. • Collect and review student progress data, mentor logs, and fidelity checklists. • Summarize and report program outcomes to district leadership and community partners. • Use data to refine interventions and document the program's impact on student engagement, behavior, and academic achievement. • Serve as the primary contact between BPS staff and community organizations/businesses involved in Check and Connect mentoring. • Facilitate team meetings and/or communication with mentors, administrators, and district MTSS staff. • Advocate for student needs while aligning Check & Connect with BPS's MTSS framework, Early Warning Systems, and Graduate Profile goals. • Provide training for new mentors and ongoing learning for all program staff. • Promote the role of mentoring in student engagement and dropout prevention. Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, counseling, social work, or related field. • Experience working with children, adolescents, and families in educational or social service settings. • Strong belief in the potential of every student, with persistence and a strengths-based approach. • Demonstrated ability to coach and support adults, build collaborative relationships, and manage conflict. • Knowledge of MTSS, dropout prevention strategies, and culturally responsive practices. • Excellent organizational, communication, and facilitation skills. Preferred Qualifications: • Master's degree in education, counseling, or related field. • Experience implementing evidence-based interventions in a school or district setting. • Familiarity with the Check & Connect model and/or fidelity monitoring tools. • Prior supervisory or program coordination experience.
