City of Billings Electrical Inspector I/II in Billings, Montana
The City of Billings is seeking an Electrical Inspector I/II to perform technical electrical inspection work in enforcing compliance with electrical and building codes, regulations and ordinances. Salary Range: Salary reflects Step 1 and Step 7 of a 7-step pay scale. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant's education, experience, and training. • Electrical Inspector I: $31.6513 - $42.3850 per hour. • Electrical Inspector: $33.9368 - $45.4517 per hour. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Position Overview This is the Journeyman (Electrical Inspector I) and Master (Electrical Inspector II) level of Electrical Inspector, and includes the full range of duties as assigned, working independently and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class series are flexibly staffed. The employee is required to have prior related experience, which allows the employee to meet the qualification standards for the Electrical Inspector I or II level as well as the required certifications. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Review plans and applications for field inspection. • Inspect industrial, commercial and residential electrical installations and related buildings and equipment during various stages of construction and remodeling to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances and regulations including National Electric Code, in conjunction with Building, Plumbing, Mechanical Codes, City ordinances, and other City departments' requirements. • Occasionally inspect for compliance with building, plumbing, and mechanical codes. • Check plans for special conditions or requirements. • Receive complaints about electrical, building, plumbing, and mechanical code and ordinance violations. • Investigate or forward complaints to appropriate personnel. • Identify code violations. • Obtain and prepare evidence. • Issue notices to comply on violations. • Follow-up on correction notices to ensure required corrections have been performed. • Maintain records of history of facts for possible legal actions. • Coordinate inspection activities with other City departments and divisions as required. • Ensure all departments' requirements are met before issuing certificate of occupancy. • Approve the issuance of permits. • Compute permit fees. • Confer with architects, contractors, builders and the public in the field and office. • Explain and interpret requirements and restrictions. • Maintain files and reports regarding inspection activities and findings. • Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications and Skills: • Minimum of two (2) years of specialized training beyond high school. • Minimum of four (4) years of related work experience in responsible electrical installation. • Minimum of two (2) years of electrical inspection experience or an additional four (4) years of related work experience. • Possession of a Journeyman Electrician License issued by the State of Montana. If license is from another State, license must be transferred to State of Montana within six (6) months of employment. • Possession of a Residential Electrical Inspector and Commercial Electrical Inspector certification is required or must be obtained within one (1) year of employment. • A Montana driver's license or one must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment. Additional Requirements for Electrical Inspector II: • State of Montana Master Electrician License, if license is from another State, license must be transferred to State of Montana within six (6) months of employment. • Possession of International Mechanical and Fuel Gas Code Inspector Certification or must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. • Possession of International Building Code Inspector Certification or must be obtained within one (1) year of employment.
