Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Cultural Resources Student Intern supports Grant PUD’s Cultural Resources team in office and field activities that help identify, document, protect, and preserve cultural and archaeological resources within the Priest Rapids Project and District wide. This position assists with field patrols, historic property monitoring, research, records management, GIS/data entry, collections-related work, and compliance documentation while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and attention to detail. Depending on assignment, this position reports to the Traditional Programs Supervisor, Wanapum Interface Supervisor or Archaeology Supervisor and may receive general direction from a District Archaeologist, the Reservoir Patrol Lead, or a District Curator. Cultural Resources Interns support overall District operations for compliance with the District’s FERC License, and Federal, State and local regulatory requirements.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Conduct field patrols of project areas to identify, document, and report activities that may affect culturalresources.

  • Assist with monitoring historic properties and construction activities; prepare field notes, photographs, maps, and related documentation.

  • Assist with curation, cataloging, inventory, and condition documentation of archaeological collections, as assigned.

  • Assist with research, records organization, data entry, and GIS updates related to cultural resources work.

  • Various daily and assigned tasks may need to be prioritized and organized efficiently. This position requires high attention to detail and is task outcome oriented.

  • Prioritize daily assignments, maintain accurate records, and follow safety, confidentiality, District and departmental procedures.

  • Participate in research and analytics where needed.

  • Demonstrated commitment to Grant PUD’s mission, vision, values, strategic plan and Grant PUD / IBEW Local 77 Code of Excellence. The incumbent should be familiar with these organizational priorities and behave in a way that aligns with these expectations.

  • Accepting feedback from supervisors and coworkers regarding your own safety performance.

Required Qualifications (Education and Experience, License, and/or Certifications):

  • Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior at an accredited college or university to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, Cultural Resource Management, Museum Studies, or related fields.

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher throughout the internship and provide verification upon request.

  • Maintain full-time student status for the duration of the internship and provide verification upon request.

Preferred Qualifications (Education and Experience, License, and/or Certifications):

  • Coursework or experience in field documentation, archival research, GIS, collections, or records management.

  • Knowledge of cultural resources law, policies and procedures; department policies and procedures; computer programs; file management; office environment; administrative tasks.

  • Skill in GIS; operating a personal computer and general office equipment; typing and entering data with speed and accuracy; organization and prioritization; interpersonal skills

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong organization, professionalism, and attention to detail.

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn department software and databases.
