Job Title: Weekend Shift CNC Machinist (1st Shift, 5-Axis)
Job Description
This role focuses on independently setting up and operating 5-axis CNC machines to machine a wide variety of parts, including weldments, block work, flame-cut and ground plates, and pins. You will perform multiple setups per shift, maintain exceptional quality standards, and work efficiently in a clean, climate-controlled shop on a weekend 1st shift schedule.
Responsibilities
Independently set up and operate 5-axis CNC machines, including HAAS UMC equipment, to machine parts accurately and efficiently according to engineering prints.
Perform multiple machine setups per shift to support machining of weldments, block work of various sizes, flame-cut and ground plates, pins, and other components.
Read and interpret blueprints and apply basic GD&T call-outs to ensure parts meet dimensional and geometric specifications.
Use standard machinist measuring tools, such as micrometers and other precision instruments, to inspect work and verify conformance to specifications.
Maintain very low levels of rework and scrap by consistently producing high-quality parts and addressing issues proactively.
Set up and run one-off parts to print efficiently and accurately, adapting quickly to different part requirements.
Safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move materials, workpieces, and tooling as needed.
Keep the work area clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards throughout the shift.
Follow established safety procedures, including the use of required personal protective equipment.
Maintain a satisfactory attendance and punctuality record to support reliable weekend shift operations.
Collaborate effectively as a team player, communicating with colleagues and support staff to resolve issues and improve processes.
Manage time and priorities effectively to complete assigned work within required timeframes.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned to support production and continuous improvement efforts.
Essential Skills
5–7 years minimum experience as a machinist in a production or job-shop environment.
Hands-on experience setting up and operating mills and lathes, including CNC equipment.
Prior experience setting up and operating HAAS UMC 5-axis CNC machines.
Ability to independently set up and operate 5-axis CNC machines to machine parts per print.
Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, including understanding of basic GD&T call-outs.
Ability to accurately use standard machinist measuring tools, including micrometers and other precision instruments.
Proven ability to set up and run one-off parts to print efficiently and accurately.
High attention to detail and strong focus on part quality and precision.
Ability to maintain little to no rework or scrap through careful setup and machining practices.
Capability to work well under pressure while meeting production and quality expectations.
Excellent teamwork, organizational, and time management skills.
Ability to safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes.
Consistent, reliable attendance and punctuality.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
A solid knowledge base and understanding of M and G code concepts.
CNC programming experience is a plus and will support more complex setups and process improvements.
Experience with grinding operations and use of grinding machines.
Familiarity with operating and setting up various mills and machining centers.
Comfort working with a variety of materials and part types, including weldments and flame-cut plates.

Work Environment
The role is based in a very clean, climate-controlled machining shop operating on a weekend 1st shift schedule with 12-hour shifts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. You will work with 5-axis CNC machines, including HAAS UMC equipment, mills, lathes, grinding machines, forklifts, and overhead cranes in a well-organized production environment. The weekend shift has relatively few people on site, reducing distractions and micromanagement while supporting focused, independent work. Employees typically work 36 hours per week on this schedule and are paid for 40 hours. As a company employee, you are eligible for benefits including a 401K match. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
