ACLD- Adults and Children with Learning and Developmental Disabilities Teacher Aide in Bethpage, New York
Primary Purpose of Job Perform non-teaching duties under supervision of the classroom teacher and program supervisors.
Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent required. Must be at least 18 years of age to supervise children independently. Minimum of one (1) year experience working with children in a classroom or childcare environment preferred. Experience working with children with special needs is preferred. Must have the ability to supervise children in a variety of educational settings including, but not limited to, self-contained, integrated, and off-site and be physically able to handle all aspects of the supervision of the day-to-day activities of preschoolers which may include, but not limited to, running, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs. Bilingual preferred.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Ability Must have the interest and ability to engage children in developmentally appropriate activities.
Essential Functions Supervise and assist student(s) in non-teaching duties such as the following of class routines and expected transitions, attend to physical (self-care and health) needs. Document relevant data to assess progress for each child(ren). Manage records, classroom equipment, and stock teaching materials and classroom supplies. Participate in team meetings, parent-teacher conferences, staff meetings, in-service trainings and conferences to improve knowledge of special education and related fields. Assist in bus duties and toileting. Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly environment. Other duties as assigned
