Cybel is looking for an electro-optical fiber engineer to lead the development, adaptation, and manufacturing of optical fiber laser and amplifiers at different operating wavelengths (1um, 1.5um & 2um) in both original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and benchtop designs. The candidate is expected to prioritize time to stay on schedule, be proactive in documenting the results and findings, and in communicating them to the scientific staff. He/she is expected to work as a part of a team and may also lead efforts with other engineers and technicians. The employee must have permission to work in the US.

Job responsibilities include: • Participate and support development proposals for new or existing fiber laser or amplifier products. • Develop timelines and resources to implement solutions for the project execution. • Contribute to the detailed design, build, and test of amplifier or laser configurations that include optics, lasers, electronics, detectors, firmware, and opto-mechanics. • Diagnose complex problems with our products and recommend solutions with minimal support and oversight. • Document findings/results and analyses for reporting. • Maintain proper and organized records of product specification, schematic, layout, hardware, firmware, and control software. • Interface with other technical staff to jointly investigate and solve engineering problems • Prepare technical presentations for internal use, conferences and customers. • Meet with customers (on-site and occasionally off-site) to discuss customer requirements. Desired Qualifications: • Masters in an engineering degree program (Optical Fiber or Lasers preferred) plus 2 years of work experience • Hands-on experience optical fiber handling (cleaving, splicing), general fiber measurements (coupling efficiency, attenuation, absorption) preferred • Experience with various amplifier and laser fiber geometries and designs • Knowledge of Matlab and LabVIEW is strongly desired
