TEKsystems Principal Systems Engineer in Berwyn, Pennsylvania

Description

TEKsystems is looking for a Principal Systems Engineers to support our client for various Telecommunications initiatives. These initiatives can vary, but some are BAU (Business as Usual) work/upgrades, and others are project based such as delivering fiber to all of the tower gateway base stations, substations, or even getting fiber into distribution Substations. Basically this is a Multi Opco program to install and replace aged DC power plant as it pertains to Telecomm systems within substations and Microwave/Wireless Shelters.

  • The Principal Systems Engineer will be responsible for overseeing day to day Battery/Telecomm support across their various projects. This would include, but not limited to, Performing Site Walks/Surveys, Evaluating current designs, updating current designs, updating standards and SOP (Standard operating procedures) for Telecomm DC Power, Coordinating with vendors across the build (Design Vendors, OEM's, Construction Vendors, etc), also coordinating across internal cross functional teams (Power Engineers, Electrical Distribution teams, Project Managers, etc), owning documentation within various databases, collecting and updating As-Builts, performing load analysis, alarm troubleshooting, etc.

  • Very important to be able to maintain relationships with various vendors (OEMS, Distributors, Service Providers, Construction GC’s, etc), a lot of coordination with cross functional teams and project managers.

  • As far as vendors go, this will vary by OPCO, but there are standardized vendors and process so resource will not need to recreate the wheel.

  • This resource will be pretty much working across the lifecycle of Battery deployments from start to finish as the SME.

  • The project Managers associated to the various initiatives will own the financial piece. But this resource will be providing them with plan for battery upgrade. This includes everything from Greenfield, to replacements and upgrades. Resources will be performing sites walks/surveys when necessary, comparing to current documentation, identifying best plan for deployment, creating the BOM, working with vendors to order equipment, working with vendors to get quotes on deployment, then providing oversight on scheduling and QC of completion all the way through As-builts.

  • Other two pieces of this job is support for operations side of house with alarms/questions, and level 3 support (NO on-call or after hours).

  • Need to be able to communicate across various levels of the organization, comfortable into field (should like to do this 2 days a week or so, this is not a 100% behind the desk job).

  • Voltages vary, but should be familiar with 48 Volt DC, 120 Volt, or 20X AC to power to DC systems. Again, all of this is powering telecom systems.

Skills

Design, Telecommunication, Construction, Engineering, Fiber optic, Telecom engineering, Project management, Construction management, power, dc power systems, Wireless, Reliability engineering

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • This position is a mixture of in office, field, and remote. Current expectation is that resource is in office 3 days/week and right now are typically Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with Monday and Friday being remote.

  • For all site visits and field work the resource will be using their own vehicle but receive mileage reimbursement.

  • Right now, this work is associated to numerous OPCO's and they are very flexible on what office the resource sits out of.

  • Again, this resource really needs to have solid communication skills and the ability to build relationships with all types of vendors.

  • Does not need to have specific Telco experience within Utility, it can come from Communications customers as well.

  • Bulk of work is the understanding of battery sizing in accordance with IEEE standards. Need to have solid knowledge of Batteries/Rectifiers, understanding of the AC requirements that go into that. Very rarely is DC to DC converters, and different voltages for different products.
