Job Description
The Maintenance Mechanic supports daily production by performing mechanical, electrical, and facilities maintenance on a wide range of industrial equipment. This role focuses on preventive and reactive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to keep machinery running efficiently and safely in a manufacturing environment. The position also contributes to facility upkeep, including basic HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry tasks.
Responsibilities
Assist the existing maintenance mechanic with daily maintenance tasks and project work to support continuous production operations.
Perform preventive maintenance on industrial equipment to maximize uptime and ensure efficient production.
Carry out reactive maintenance and emergency repairs on production equipment as issues arise during production.
Service and repair equipment such as mixing machines, motors, bearings, belts, saws, conveyors, and related components.
Provide skilled mechanical support to all areas of production, ensuring equipment operates safely and reliably.
Conduct machine setup, troubleshooting, and repairs, as well as scheduled preventive maintenance services.
Perform scheduled maintenance and repairs during planned machine downtime to minimize disruption to production.
Set up machinery for scheduled production runs according to operational requirements.
Read and interpret equipment manuals, blueprints, schematics, and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
Maintain the work area, tools, and equipment in a clean, organized, and safe condition, following all safety regulations.
Participate in facilities maintenance activities, including basic HVAC, electrical, plumbing, minor carpentry, and general repairs.
Manage time and prioritize tasks effectively to complete maintenance work and support timely fulfillment of customer orders.
Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues and implement effective repairs.
Support implementation and adherence to preventive maintenance programs across production equipment and facility systems.
Essential Skills
2–5 years of experience as a mechanic or maintenance technician, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Hands-on experience with industrial maintenance, including machine repair and equipment servicing.
Ability to work with 480V 3-phase motors and related electrical components at a maintenance level.
Strong mechanical aptitude, including experience with motors, bearings, belts, saws, conveyors, and similar equipment.
Proficiency in performing preventive maintenance and reactive maintenance on industrial machinery.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, equipment manuals, schematics, and work orders.
Capability to conduct machine setup, adjustments, and changeovers for production runs.
Strong troubleshooting skills to quickly diagnose equipment issues and implement effective repairs.
Ability to perform general facilities maintenance tasks, including basic HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and minor carpentry.
Solid understanding of industrial maintenance practices and safe work procedures.
Time management skills to balance multiple maintenance tasks and support production goals.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Prior experience in a manufacturing or industrial production environment.
Experience in preventive maintenance program implementation or participation.
Experience supporting production teams with emergency and unscheduled repairs.
Familiarity with maintaining a clean and organized maintenance shop and production work area.
Comfort working with industrial tools, equipment, and diagnostic instruments.
Strong communication skills to collaborate with production and maintenance team members.
Detail-oriented approach to documenting maintenance activities and following work orders.

Work Environment
This role is based in a manufacturing environment where fiberboard and related materials are cut and processed, resulting in a hot and dusty workspace at times. You will work around industrial equipment such as mixing machines, saws, conveyors, motors, and other production machinery. The position involves hands-on work on the production floor and throughout the facility. Typical attire includes work pants, a work shirt, and sturdy work boots appropriate for an industrial setting. Safety glasses are provided, and additional protective items such as dust masks or sleeves over the mouth can be worn if desired. The environment requires consistent attention to safety procedures and comfort working in physically active, industrial conditions.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Berlin, NJ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
