Actalent Mechanical Design Engineer in Berkeley, California

Job Title: Mechanical Design EngineerJob Description

Join our Electromechanical team as a Staff Level Technical Lead Electro-mechanical Engineer. You will be instrumental in driving the requirements, design, simulation, and testing of next-generation power systems for clean energy delivery from batteries to the grid. Your role involves designing electro-mechanical sub-assemblies to deliver power and control signals to auxiliary systems within the battery enclosure, transforming concepts into production-ready designs in a fast-paced environment. Collaborate with various engineering teams and contribute to cutting-edge technology with a remarkable mission.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship within a multidisciplinary engineering team.

  • Own the electromechanical design of battery products, including high voltage distribution, isolation, grounding, and harnessing.

  • Address challenges related to electronics packaging, such as electrical isolation, sealing, thermal regulation, and shock mitigation.

  • Lead root cause analyses and cross-functional interface design.

  • Conduct mechanical design analysis including thermal, structural, and design for assembly and test.

  • Manage the design process from conception through iterations to mass-production.

  • Create drawing packages and manufacturing instructions for parts and assemblies.

  • Design and develop electromechanical and electrical systems to support test stand safety and improvements.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks and NX.

  • Experience with high-volume manufacturing, fabrication, and prototyping techniques.

  • Strong fundamentals in mechanical and electrical engineering, including GD&T and first principles hand calculations.

  • Expertise in cost modeling and multi-physics simulations like thermal, CFD, and structural.

  • Ability to navigate system-level trade-offs and integrate them into architecture studies.

  • Solid understanding of power distribution, electrical circuits, and protection devices.

  • Understanding of creepage and clearance analysis and standards.

  • Ability to model resistive losses and run current density analysis.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering with 8+ years of experience, or Master's degree with 6+ years of experience in developing medium to high volume products.

  • Experience in the automotive industry.

  • Familiarity with electrical standards such as NEC and battery and power conversion standards like UL9540 and UL1741.

  • Leadership skills with the ability to mentor and communicate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Berkeley, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100.00 - $138.00/hr.
