Job Information
Amazon Network Development Engineer, Office Network Reliability Engineering in Bengaluru, India
Description
Join our Office Network Reliability Engineering team and help shape the network infrastructure that connects 540,000 Amazonians across 400+ corporate offices worldwide. As a Network Development Engineer, you'll move beyond traditional network operations to build automation solutions, develop self-service tools, and create the operational processes that enable our teams to resolve incidents independently—all while receiving mentorship from experienced engineers who are invested in your growth.
Key job responsibilities
Provide Tier 3 escalation support by participating in the on-call rotation for the APAC regional hub, independently diagnosing and resolving well-scoped network failures including wireless access point issues, LAN connectivity problems, VLAN misconfigurations, circuit disruptions, and authentication failures, while supporting senior engineers on complex multi-site or cross-system incidents
Troubleshoot across multiple network layers including wireless (802.11, Aruba controllers), routing and switching (BGP, OSPF, VLANs, STP), network authentication (802.1X, RADIUS, ISE), and circuit infrastructure, recognizing when to escalate ambiguous or high-risk incidents to senior engineers
Build organizational knowledge by contributing to runbooks, troubleshooting guides, and tribal knowledge documentation that captures your troubleshooting steps, findings, and resolution details, making your expertise reusable by operations teams and future team members
Develop automation and tooling capabilities by assisting with the development of automation scripts and self-service tools under senior engineer guidance, building your scripting proficiency on real operational use cases while co-delivering targeted training sessions to operations teams
Execute proactive reliability initiatives by completing assigned tasks within network availability, operating system compliance, and configuration compliance programs, including identifying technical debt, validating upgrade readiness, and documenting outcomes to maintain network fleet health
A day in the life
Your day as a Network Development Engineer on the ONRE team is structured around learning, contributing, and developing the habits of a builder. You begin your shift with the regional handoff from the AMER team, reviewing overnight escalations and picking up any open items with clear next steps. A single-site wireless issue has been escalated by the Operations Management Center — three access points in a Bangalore office are showing degraded client connectivity. You take ownership of the ticket, follow the diagnostic runbook, identify a VLAN misconfiguration introduced during a recent change, and restore service. You document your steps and note that no runbook exists for this specific failure pattern. You open a task to draft one.
Later in the morning, a more complex multi-site WAN issue comes in affecting offices across the APAC region. You join a senior engineer as a support, running log collection and carrier portal checks while the senior engineer drives the resolution. You observe how they isolate the fault, engage the carrier, and manage communication with the Operations Management Center simultaneously — capabilities you are actively developing.
In the afternoon, you have a standing task in the OS Compliance program: validating upgrade readiness on a set of assigned Aruba access switches. You work through the checklist, flag two devices with pre-existing configuration issues that need remediation before upgrade, and document your findings in the tracking tool. You close your shift by updating the wiki with the runbook draft you started in the morning, handing off to the EMEA team, and reviewing feedback from a senior engineer on a troubleshooting guide you submitted last week.
About the team
We are a globally distributed team of experienced builders committed to developing the next generation of network engineers. When you join our ONRE team in Bangalore, you're joining a group that values intellectual curiosity, engineering craft, and partnership.
We work at the intersection of incident resolution, operational documentation, and proactive reliability programs. Our customers are the 540,000 Amazonians who depend on our networks every day, and the Operations Management Center teams who escalate complex issues to us. We're focused on building the automation, tooling, and knowledge systems that enable our operations teams to resolve incidents independently over time.
You'll receive mentorship from senior engineers who are invested in your technical development and career growth. You'll own real outcomes from day one—the incidents, runbooks, and reliability tasks you're assigned matter and are visible across the organization. We operate on a 24/7/365 follow-the-sun model across three regional hubs (EMEA, APAC, and AMER), and you'll participate in the on-call rotation for the APAC hub while partnering closely with our Operations Management Center, Office Infrastructure Excellence, AWS Enterprise Networking, and onsite IT support teams.
