The Cloud FinOps Lead owns financial accountability, cost optimization, and value realization across a multi-cloud environment (AWS, Azure, GCP) . This role partners with Engineering, Infrastructure, Finance, and Procurement to ensure cloud spend is transparent, optimized, and aligned to business outcomes.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep cloud financial expertise, strong analytics, and the ability to influence decisions across technical and executive teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mature the Cloud FinOps practice across AWS, Azure, and GCP.

  • Own cloud forecasting, budgeting, and spend governance .

  • Validate billing accuracy, investigate anomalies, and manage credits and commitments.

  • Drive optimization initiatives (rightsizing, reservations, Savings Plans, CUDs, spot usage).

  • Deliver weekly and monthly executive reporting with actionable insights.

  • Partner with cloud vendors on contracts, SOW approvals, and optimization opportunities.

  • Establish cost allocation, tagging/labeling standards, and chargeback/showback models.

  • Educate engineering and product teams on cost-aware design and FinOps standards.

  • Support cloud migrations and modernization initiatives with financial guardrails.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Finance, Accounting, or related field OR equivalent professional experience in cloud financial management.

  • Commitment to ongoing cloud and FinOps training (AWS/Azure/GCP certifications preferred).

Key Performance Indicator Expectations:

Success in this role is measured by:

  • Year-over-year cloud cost optimization savings

  • Forecast accuracy within agreed variance thresholds

  • Commitment utilization rates (AWS RI/SP, Azure Reservations, GCP CUDs)

  • Reduction in waste and unallocated spend

  • Billing accuracy and anomaly resolution SLAs

  • Tagging/labeling compliance across all cloud platforms

  • Timely delivery of executive cloud financial reporting

  • Collaborator satisfaction across Engineering, Finance, and Procurement

Required Experience & Skills:

  • 5+ years of cloud experience with strong AWS, Azure, and/or GCP exposure.

  • Deep understanding of compute, storage, networking, and cloud pricing models.

  • Hands-on experience with FinOps tools (CloudHealth, Cloudability, Apptio, or similar).

  • Strong financial modeling, forecasting, and advanced Excel skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaborator management capabilities.

  • Highly analytical, diligent, and able to work independently.

  • Self-starter with a continuous learning outlook.
