Actalent Automation Engineer in Belvidere, New Jersey

Job Title: Automation EngineerJob Description

This is a hands-on Senior Automation Engineer position at a live manufacturing facility within the health, nutrition, or regulated process manufacturing space. The engineer will focus on automation and controls troubleshooting, system reliability, and small-to-medium improvement initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional plant teams to enhance the performance and sustainability of control systems. The role requires direct involvement in a production environment and taking ownership of automation enhancements from conception to execution.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day support to plant operations by troubleshooting automation, instrumentation, and control system issues.

  • Lead and execute small-to-medium automation improvement projects from initial concept through implementation.

  • Improve reliability, standardization, and documentation across control systems.

  • Collaborate closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and IT/OT teams.

  • Help build internal automation capability and reduce dependence on external contractors.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support site leadership and plant objectives.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

  • 4–8 years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering.

  • Strong experience with PLC and/or DCS platforms (experience with DeltaV or similar systems).

  • Ability to troubleshoot live production systems in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience supporting batch or continuous process manufacturing, particularly in pharma, chemical, food, or other regulated industries.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Allen-Bradley, DeltaV, I/O Checkout, and hardware configuration.

  • Data analysis, data science, alarm rationalization, PI Vision, and Seeq.

  • Experience configuring thin client managers.

  • Someone who appreciates a systematic and structured way of doing things, is independent-minded, very organized, and emphasizes sustainability.

Work Environment

This is a fully on-site role with a work schedule of Monday to Friday. Employees can start work as early as 7:00 AM and end by 4:00 PM, or start at 8:30 AM and conclude at 5:30 PM. The role provides exposure to various systems with autonomy on project work, within a department that has potential for growth and advancement in the future.

This is a Contract position based out of Belvidere, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $75.00/hr.
