Job Title: Design Engineer
Job Description
As a Design Engineer, you will apply engineering methods to develop products that meet quality, regulatory, and profitability standards. You will assist production staff with troubleshooting, calculate material usage, collaborate on product improvements, update engineering documents, and design detailed specifications using CAD and FEA software.
Responsibilities
Troubleshoot problems and provide solutions to production staff regarding component fabrication.
Calculate material usage for components and assemblies.
Collaborate with designers to improve product lines.
Update released engineering documents through the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) procedure.
Develop and design detailed specifications for components and machinery using computer-assisted equipment.
Review schematics and consult with experienced engineers regarding system installations.
Coordinate and consult with team members to design, layout, and detail components and systems.
Enter part numbers, bills of material, and shop floor routings into the ERP system.
Create models, prints, schematics, and bills of material to aid production.
Design, calculate, and draft pressure vessels and structural components using CAD and FEA software.
Develop 3D models and detailed drawings based on sales specifications.
Ensure designs comply with applicable regulations and standards.
Evaluate change requests for cost, weight, manufacturing ease, quality, and customer impact.
Maintain flexibility to shift tasks according to company needs.
Lay out, draw, and detail schematics, parts, and assemblies with necessary views and content.
Modify and revise designs to correct deficiencies or reduce production issues.
Report quality concerns or delays to the supervisor.
Position instructions and comments onto drawings and technical publications to describe mechanical systems operation and maintenance.
Review and analyze specifications, sketches, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs.
Essential Skills
3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering and design.
Experience with sheet metal, stainless steel, and metal fabrication.
Proficiency in Solidworks or Autodesk Inventor.
FEA and vibration analysis experience using Nastran.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Knowledge of pressure vessel and 49 CFR regulatory standards.
Experience in the transportation or heavy equipment industry.
Familiarity with tank manufacturing standards.
Bachelor's degree in mechanical design or a related field for Level Three Design Engineer.
2-3 years of design experience with trailer/vehicle systems for Level Two Design Engineer.
4+ years of design experience for Level Three Design Engineer.
Understanding of regulatory and standards knowledge (49CFR§178 & 571, FDA, BPVC_VIII-1, 3-A, ASTM).
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes.
Work Environment
This position is onsite full-time, with potential flexibility on Fridays for those with longer commutes. The team consists of 3 Design Engineers, 1 Mechanical Engineer, 1 Sales Engineer, and plans to add more staff to support the new facility and growth. The company has recently moved to a cutting-edge facility that supports increased production and larger orders. The work environment is dynamic and focuses on product and process improvements, including involvement with government and military contracts.

This is a Permanent position based out of Beloit, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $105000.00/yr.
Full time benefits are offered.
