Aerotek Quality Inspector in Belmont, North Carolina

Job Title: Quality Inspector

Job Description

The Quality Inspector operates specialized inspection and testing equipment to ensure advanced textiles and aerospace composite fabrics meet stringent quality standards. This role supports the Quality Engineer by owning day-to-day quality control activities, including inspection, testing, documentation, and nonconformance management, so higher-level quality assurance, audits, and strategic initiatives can move forward efficiently. The position combines hands-on fabric testing, data entry, and problem-solving in a modern, growing aerospace-focused textile manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily fabric testing, including punch tests, tensile and pull tests using equipment such as an Instron machine, weight checks, and other textile-specific tests to verify product conformity.

  • Conduct receiving inspections on incoming yarn and raw materials, including pull tests and conformity checks, to ensure only compliant materials enter production.

  • Complete independent in-process inspections on 3D fabrics, maintaining separation from production operators to ensure objective quality verification.

  • Log and track nonconformances, quarantine defective materials, and ensure they are not released into production.

  • Support floor personnel when issues arise on looms or with raw materials by helping identify root causes and recommending appropriate quality actions.

  • Perform basic calibration of tools such as steel rules and measurement devices, and maintain accurate calibration records.

  • Review shipping documentation, certifications, and traceability paperwork for accuracy before products leave the facility.

  • Enter all inspection and testing results into the ERP system (Syteline) and support the transition to more digital and tablet-based workflows.

  • Participate in daily touchpoints with the remote Quality Manager to align on priorities, share updates, and receive ongoing training and guidance.

  • Assist with digitizing quality processes and improving documentation workflows to enhance traceability and efficiency.

  • Collaborate closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve issues and maintain high standards of accuracy and accountability.

  • Adapt to a small-company environment by taking on additional tasks outside the core job description when needed to support overall operations.

Essential Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational discipline in a production or manufacturing environment.

  • Quality inspection experience in a manufacturing setting, with 2+ years preferred.

  • Proficiency using inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, and basic gauges.

  • Computer literacy, including the ability to learn and use ERP systems, digital workflows, and tablets.

  • Clear and assertive communication skills to identify defects, stop production when necessary, and explain quality concerns effectively.

  • Comfort working with both hands-on testing and data entry responsibilities.

  • Ability to follow documented procedures, maintain accurate records, and adhere to established quality processes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in textiles, particularly yarn testing, twist measurement, tensile testing, or loom-based manufacturing.

  • Background in aerospace manufacturing, traceability, or other regulated environments.

  • Familiarity with AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality management standards.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, prints, and specifications.

  • Exposure to Statistical Process Control (SPC), problem-solving methodologies, or analytical quality tools.

  • Experience with nonconformance systems, corrective action requests (CARs), or quality documentation workflows.

  • Interest in modernization and digitization of processes, including tablet-based and electronic documentation systems.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-growing facility with increasing production demands and evolving processes.

Why Work Here?

You will join a stable, growth-oriented operation with a consistent workload and a track record of avoiding layoffs, supported by a diverse product line that minimizes slow seasons. The environment offers a small-team setting where your contributions are visible and advancement is clear, including opportunities to grow into QA, auditing, documentation, or higher-level quality roles as the site expands. You will receive monthly incentive bonuses based on production performance and benefit from strong leadership support, with daily access to a remote Quality Manager and close mentorship from an onsite Quality Engineer. The role provides hands-on exposure to aerospace-grade quality systems, advanced textile testing, and modernization initiatives, including digital workflows and tablet-based systems, all within a climate-controlled facility that values accuracy, accountability, and doing the right thing even under production pressure.

Work Environment

The position is based on a manufacturing floor and quality lab with exposure to looms, textiles, and testing equipment used for advanced aerospace fabrics. The facility operates multiple shifts, including 1st shift (7:00 AM – 3:00 PM), 2nd shift (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM), and 3rd shift (11:00 PM – 7:00 AM), with a shift differential for non-day shifts; the current hiring need is for 1st shift. The work environment is climate controlled and combines hands-on inspection, fabric testing, and equipment use with computer-based data entry in the Syteline ERP system and emerging tablet-based workflows. Personal protective equipment is required, including steel toe shoes, safety glasses, and ear plugs, and some product lines involve fiberglass, which can be itchy when it contacts the skin. The culture is collaborative and fast-growing, with close interaction between production, engineering, and quality teams, and an expectation that team members in this small company are willing to assist with tasks outside their core job description when needed. The organization emphasizes precision, accountability, and open communication, supported by daily remote touchpoints with the Quality Manager and onsite support from the Quality Engineer.
