Role: Full-Time CVOR Surgical Technologist
Schedule : Work four 10-hour Day shifts each week
Unit: 10 OR suites that includes CVOR
Hospital : St. Joseph Medical Center is a 252-bed level 2 trauma center hospital that is part of PeaceHealth, a mission driven healthcare system in the Pacific Northwest.
Location: On the shores of Bellingham Bay with Mount Baker at its backdrop, Bellingham is just 45 minutes South of Vancouver BC, 90 miles North of Seattle Bellingham and an hour from Mt. Baker. For those new to Cardiac Surgery, we provide excellent training that allows you to work independently in CVOR with confidence. In addition to CVOR, may also work in the Main OR occasionally.

A current wage range of $34.82 - $52.28, wage dependent upon Surgical Tech experience and terms of our SEIU collective bargaining agreement.

Job Summary
This position is responsible for assisting the Surgical team during operative procedures by performing a variety of technical duties to primarily assist in responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of the surgical sterile field for the operative patient. In Cardiac Surgery (CVOR), uses a variety of specialized equipment to assist the physician in the performance of invasive procedures resulting in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac and peripheral vascular disease
Essential Functions
Arrange and inventories sterile set-up for operation and passes items as needed to the surgical team.
Understand and apply the principles of asepsis. Establish and maintain sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment.
Assist in preparation and moving of patients.
Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes instrumentation. Assists with clean-up and room turnover.
Access computer information as needed, such as preference lists and digital images.
Participates in all safety initiatives. Adheres to programs such as SCIP and SCOAP quality initiatives.
May be required to provide scheduling support
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education
- Accredited Program Preferred: Surgical Technology. or recognized course of training as a Surgical Technologist preferred
Experience
Required: 2 years Surgical Technologist experience in a hospital Main OR.
Preferred: 2 years CVOR Surgical Technologist experience
Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs
Credentials
Required: Washington State Surgical Technologist Registration
Required Upon Hire: Basic Life Support Certification
Preferred: Certified Surgical Technologist
Skills
Well organized, detail oriented and self-motivated (Required)
Ability to coordinate activities and work collaboratively with others (Required)
Ability to execute detailed procedures with accuracy and precision (Required)
Basic computer/keyboarding skills including MS Office applications (Required)
Understanding of operating room protocols (Required)
Working Conditions
Lifting
Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
Frequent reaching/ bending/ squatting/ kneeling/ grasping.
Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 15 lbs. Occasionally up to 20 lbs.
Push/Pull: Frequently up to 20 lbs. force. Occasional up to 30 lbs. force.
Environmental Conditions
Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.
Mental/Visual
Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
