Job Information
Amazon Senior Software Development Engineer, Last Mile Delivery in Bellevue, Washington
Description
Join Amazon's Last Mile Delivery Automation Team!
Are you ready to lead the architecture of cloud infrastructure that powers connected delivery vehicles? Join us in designing and building the systems that will enable safe, scalable automated delivery across Amazon's logistics network!
The Last Mile Delivery Automation organization is pioneering automated delivery solutions for Amazon Logistics (AMZL). Our Cloud Services & Operations Apps team builds the critical backend infrastructure that enables safe, scalable automated delivery operations - from semantic mapping pipelines to real-time fleet telemetry, from ODD management platforms to ML training infrastructure.
The challenge is fascinating: we're building systems that transform raw sensor data from vehicles into lane-level semantic maps, distribute real-time updates across fleets in under a minute, and provide operational visibility into thousands of connected delivery vehicles. Our platforms process TB-scale sensor data, coordinate multi-vehicle data collection, and power the ML pipelines that train perception models - all while maintaining Amazon's highest standards for safety and reliability.
As a Senior Software Development Engineer on our Cloud Services & Operations Apps team, you'll own the technical architecture of systems that enable automated delivery at scale. You'll lead the design of complex distributed systems, drive cross-team technical decisions, and mentor engineers while building the data pipelines, mapping systems, and operational tools that power our connected vehicle fleet.
What Makes This Role Exciting:
Own Technical Architecture: Lead the design and architecture of critical systems - mapping pipelines, telemetry platforms, ODD management, and fleet coordination services that connected delivery vehicles depend on
Drive Complex System Design: Architect solutions for challenging problems like multi-vehicle map fusion, real-time fleet telemetry at scale, and ML training infrastructure that processes TB-scale sensor data
Cross-Team Technical Leadership: Collaborate with perception, planning, and operations teams to design cohesive system architectures. Influence technical direction across organizational boundaries.
Greenfield Architecture: Design foundational systems from scratch - make key technology choices, define service boundaries, and establish patterns that will scale with the business
Force Multiply: Mentor engineers, simplify complex systems, drive operational excellence, and establish engineering best practices for a growing team
Key job responsibilities
Lead technical architecture and design for data pipelines, mapping systems, telemetry platforms, and operational tools
Design and implement complex distributed systems for processing multi-modal sensor data from connected vehicle fleets
Own end-to-end system architecture for mapping pipelines including data fusion, spatial indexing, version control, and fleet-wide distribution
Drive cross-team technical decisions and influence architecture across related teams (perception, planning, operations)
Mentor engineers and establish engineering best practices for system design, code quality, and operational excellence
Proactively identify and resolve architectural deficiencies, simplify systems, and reduce technical debt
Lead integration of parallel workstreams and coordinate complex multi-system deliverables
Collaborate with ML teams to architect training infrastructure, data labeling platforms, and model deployment pipelines
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
Experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets
Experience coordinating between technical teams, peers and business stakeholders
Experience with geospatial data, mapping systems, or location-based services
Familiarity with sensor data processing (camera, LiDAR, telemetry)
