This opportunity entails being responsible for applying planning strategies utilizing various technologies and tools to gather and analyze data, assess outcomes, and develop reporting and visuals to effectively communicate findings. This position assists with tasks for planning projects including research, studies, and documentation, coordinating with inter-disciplinary team members, from concept development through project completion.
In this role, you will support projects within HNTB’s Rail/Transit department, working alongside a close-knit group of planners and a broader interdisciplinary team that includes engineers, architects, and landscape architects. The position offers exposure to dynamic capital and operations projects for transit and rail systems, contributing to planning tasks that will shape transit expansion, operational resiliency, and asset management. This role provides opportunities to build and expand technical planning skills, learn new tools and methodologies, interact with clients and the community, and grow professionally while engaging in meaningful, impactful work.
Our Bellevue office is looking to hire a New Grad Transportation Planner I.
What You’ll Do:
Researches and collects raw data, organizes, analyzes and provides review of the data for use in projects and for further analysis.
Performs project analysis using technical guidance and software.
Assists project team members with various support tasks such as development of maps, exhibits, presentation materials, and reporting.
Conducts research on issues, policies, and concepts pertaining to planning. Assists in the development of conceptual planning alternatives for urban and transportation planning projects
Performs tasks related to the preparation and production of plans, studies, reports, and environmental documents for transportation and infrastructure projects.
Assists in stakeholder and public participation process.
Maintains records, collections and files related to specific projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering, or related field
What You’ll Bring:
Understands GIS software and Microsoft Office Suite.
An ability to develop technical reports, data visualizations, and presentation graphics with direction from more experienced staff.
An ability tomanage and analyze large datasets in Excel, Python, SQL, and/or R with direction from more experienced staff.
Ability in ArcGIS Pro mapping, spatial analysis, and interactive dashboard creation with direction from more experienced staff
What We Prefer:
Master's degree in Urban Planning or related field.
Previous work experience in planning through an internship or prior employment.
Exposure to transit planning and working with public agency staff.
Exposure to coordinating public and stakeholder engagement.
Exposureto coordinating between design disciplines (e.g., engineering, architecture, station planning).
Exposureto transportation modelling in Visum, Vissim, Synchro, Trapeze, or similar
Experience with AutoCAD and Revit

The approximate pay range for the Greater Seattle, WA Metro Area is $68,265.89 - $102,398.85. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
