· Performs larval mosquito surveillance and treats with pesticides where found.  Performs post-treatment surveillance to determine effectiveness of treatment.

· Sets mosquito traps to collect adults for West Nile Virus testing.  Packs samples in bottles on dry ice and ships to PA DEP in Harrisburg.

· Sets mosquito traps to look for the presence of common mosquito-borne virus diseases or aborviral disease in Centre County, Clearfield, and Clinton counties.  As several mosquito species are capable of transmitting arboviral disease in Pennsylvania.  Packs samples in bottles on dry ice and ships to PA DEP in Harrisburg.

· Investigates nuisance mosquito complaints from the public and performs surveillance and control where appropriate.  Assists in development of strategies with PA DEP program staff to develop alterations or innovations to existing monitoring and control programs.

· Investigates positive West Nile Virus findings in animals, birds, or mosquitoes with enhanced surveillance and control as necessary.

· Performs adult mosquito spraying where indicated by PA DEP protocol for the  presence of West Nile Virus or nuisance mosquito numbers.  Performs post-treatment surveillance to determine effectiveness of treatment.

· Samples dead birds reported by the public via oral swab and sends the samples to PA DEP for West Nile Virus testing.

· Promptly enters all surveillance and control records into the PA DEP West Nile Virus internal database.

· Promotes public education and awareness regarding mosquito borne diseases through presentations and displays focusing on homeowner responsibility.

· Conducts tick surveillance on a bi-weekly basis as outlined within the annual scope of work.

· Participates in other tasks assigned under the scope of work in the annual PA DEP contract.

· Works with the Planning department Fiscal Technician in relation to ordering supplies, completing work orders, and developing the annual grant application to PA DEP.

· Properly handles, operates, and utilizes safety equipment during the course of mosquito control.  Use of field collecting equipment.

· Operates computer or other equipment as needed.

· Attends meetings/training sessions as necessary.

· Performs other job-related duties as required.
