*Flexible Training date in early May. Day Camp runs from May 22nd through August 7th. Availability needed to work mornings and/or afternoon hours.*

POSITION SUMMARY:

Schools Out Camp (SOC) Group Leaders are responsible for assisting with implementing lesson plans, providing a safe environment for children, participating directly with children through organized play & activities and assuring positive customer service for parents, children and host administration.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the general supervision of the SOC Director and/or Assistant Recreation Director.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Supervision of program participants and activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings and in-service hours.
  • Assist SDC Director with implementing quality lesson plans; taking responsibility for setting up activities in advance so that schedules can be maintained and use the posted lesson plans.
  • Participate with the children during snack, outside play, organized games and theme activities.
  • Drive participants to and from activities.
  • Assist SDC Director to maintain accurate attendance (roll call) and rosters daily.
  • Demonstrate the ability to set and maintain limits for children using positive reinforcements; review and understand policies and practices outlined in the Bel Aire Recreation Parent Handbook.
  • Maintain good public relations with parents and host building administrators; i.e. keeping parent tables neat and organized, greet every parent and child daily, and check identification on unfamiliar persons picking up children.
  • Discuss only pertinent items with parents in compliance of the confidentiality policy and keeping it positive as much as possible.
  • Refer program inquires/concerns to the SDC Director.
  • Ensure the program is operated in a safe and purposeful manner, ensuring that all KDHE and Bel Aire
  • Recreation guidelines are met and exceeded.
  • Assist the SDC Director with the administration of the program; knowing where substitute packet is located, notifying of supply needs and repairs.
  • Be responsible for adhering to staff snack policies and cleaning schedules.
  • Complete incident/accident reports as needed; document event in incident/accident log book.
  • Communicate important program issues and information to the SDC Director.
  • Be a team player with all staff.
  • Follow all reporting procedures for reporting suspected child abuse.
  • Assist the SDC Director in maintaining necessary records involving attendance, child files, staff files, items to be posted or filed and other program regulations required for state licensing.
  • Maintain a positive, consistent model of discipline.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES:

Perform other related duties as deemed necessary or assigned by supervisors.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of school age recreation programs preferred.
  • Able to multitask; work independently with drive and initiative.
  • Experience in facility maintenance & cleaning preferred.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain successful working relationships with other employees and public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Manual labor including lifting and carrying heavy objects, bending, kneeling, sitting and climbing is required daily to fulfill the duties of this position.
  • Some adverse working conditions exist with this position. Exposure to hazardous chemicals, equipment, and excessive noise in variable weather conditions can be expected.
  • While perf rming the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, run, drive (if applicable), push, pull, carry, see, hear, speak, crawl, use hands, climb, kneel, smell and other similar types of functions.
  • The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move more than 110 pounds and frequently lift 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Most work will be performed in various types of conditions.

The job is performed primarily during preparation and delivery of scheduled recreation programs. Recreation programs are generally prepared and delivered during weekday afternoon & evening hours and occasionally all day on Saturdays.
