POSITION SUMMARY:

Seasonal Position-Summer Lifegaurd. The lifeguard position ensures the safety of all patrons at all times. This position may also perform a variety of administrative, organizational and semi-skilled work at the Central Park Pool in Bel Aire. Mature Individual at least 15 years of age A high school diploma or GED.

Applicants must have the following current certifications: 1) Lifeguarding, 2) CPR/PR, 3) First Aid or register for upcoming courses.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Director and Pool Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be punctual, in proper uniform, and ready to work at scheduled times.
  • Provide courteous and professional assistance to patrons and coworkers.
  • Maintain constant surveillance of the pool to prevent accidents and ensure patron safety.
  • Observe the pool at all times leaving station only to make a rescue or when relieved by another lifeguard.
  • Practice preventative lifeguarding by being familiar with and enforce all facility rules and regulations in a consistent, professional, and respectful manner.
  • Respond quickly to emergencies, perform rescues, and administer CPR or first aid as needed.
  • Be familiar with and participate in emergency action plans.
  • Conduct daily inspections of pool, deck, and equipment; identify and report hazards or maintenance needs.
  • Test and record water quality as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly pool environment, including restrooms, deck, and concession areas.
  • Perform cashier duties.
  • Set up and take down equipment for daily operations or special events.
  • Attend all required staff meetings, trainings, and in-service sessions; maintain certifications and lifeguarding skills.
  • Staff special events and private parties, swim lessons, and other assigned activities as needed.
  • Complete reports and communicate effectively with supervisors regarding incidents, supplies, and operations.

Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of water safety, rescue techniques, CPR, and first aid.
  • Ability to remain alert, focused, and calm in emergency situations.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with both youth and adults.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team and follow directions from supervisors.
  • Dependability and punctuality in maintaining scheduled shifts.
