About the Role
We are seeking an expert in heterogeneous catalysis and appropriate editorial experience to join the team of Chem as a Senior Editor. The Senior Editor will support the Editor-in-Chief to develop and execute journal strategy in China, based on deep understanding of the specific domestic research environment, needs of scientific community, and a strong network. They will also help further broaden and diversify the author pool, facilitate submissions of high-impact manuscripts, organize elite scientific events, and become Chem’s new face for catalysis research in China and globally.

Responsibilities
Shaping journal strategy and scopeContribute to the development of editorial strategy, particularly in China, including defining journal scope, standards, and priorities in evolving fields.
Editorial assessment of manuscriptsEvaluate a high volume of submitted manuscripts for novelty, significance, technical rigor, and suitability for the journal’s scope.
Management of peer review and decision-makingSelect and invite expert reviewers, oversee the review process, assess reports, and make scientifically sound and timely editorial decisions.
Upholding editorial standards and ethicsEnsure adherence to best practices in peer review, publication ethics, data integrity, and reproducibility.
Community engagement and representation of the journalMaintain and build strong relationships with researchers across the global scientific community, with a particular focus on China, and represent the journal at conferences, lab visits, and virtual events to the highest standards.
Collaboration with teams across Cell PressWork closely with Editorial Operations, Production, Marketing teams as well as editorial teams from other Cell Press journals to ensure operational excellence and a more integrated work environment.
Leadership and mentoringHelp with hiring and support, mentor, and provide guidance to junior editors; contribute to interviewing, team training, and editorial best practices.
Process improvement and innovationHelp refine editorial workflows and contribute ideas to improve author experience, review quality, and decision speed.
Requirements
Proven scientific expertise and editorial experience in heterogeneous catalysis (especially photocatalysis, electrocatalysis) across different areas of chemistry.
Additional experience in related or unrelated areas of research would prove beneficial (e.g. material science, sustainability research).
Strong network of leading international researchers within the scope of the journal.
Conceptual and critical thinking skills about a wide range of scientific issues.
Passion for fundamental research and strong desire to support science and scientists.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and teamworking skills.
Availability to travel frequently, primarily in China.
