Position: Press Brake Operator
Reports To: Plant Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Supervisory Responsibilities: None Shift: 1st Shift
Job Summary
The Press Brake Operator is responsible for setting up and operating a press brake machine to bend and shape sheet metal according to design specifications. This role ensures each piece produced meets quality standards by accurately aligning materials, selecting appropriate tooling, programming machine controls, and monitoring the bending process. The operator will read and interpret blueprints, perform routine machine maintenance, and inspect finished products for defects.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings to understand required bends and dimensions
- Selecting and installing appropriate tooling (punches and dies) based on material type and bend specifications
- Accurately positioning and aligning sheet metal on the press brake
- Programming CNC controls to set bending parameters such as pressure, angle, and back gauge position
- Operating the press brake and monitoring machine performance during production
- Measuring and inspecting finished parts to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards
- Identifying and troubleshooting issues that arise during the bending process
- Performing routine cleaning, lubrication, and basic maintenance of the press brake
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of press brake operation
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications
- Precision measurement skills using tools such as calipers and micrometers
- High attention to detail to maintain consistent product quality
- Basic math skills for calculating measurements and bend angles
- Working knowledge of CNC controls and basic computer skills
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate degree or a minimum of five (5) years of equivalent work experience
