Department Summary:
MITRE Finance is seeking a Senior Manager and Department Head for the Data & Integrations Department within the Enterprise Business Systems and Operations Division (EBSOD)
The Data & Integrations Department manages the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), enterprise data feeds (inbound and outbound), subject area expansion, and modernization initiatives that support evolving gold source systems. The Department is currently finalizing a significant transformation of the legacy on-premises EDW to a modern, cloud-based architecture in AWS enabling scalable, secure, and real-time data access across the enterprise.
The Department Head will provide strategic, operational, and technical leadership to ensure delivery of a resilient, future-ready enterprise data platform aligned to Finance and enterprise priorities.
Roles & Responsibilities:
The Department Head, Data & Integrations, is a senior manager responsible for strategic direction, organizational leadership, and end-to-end ownership of enterprise data platforms and integration services.
The selected candidate will:
Lead the overall strategy, roadmap, and execution of the Enterprise Data Warehouse and enterprise data integration platforms
Provide leadership and oversight to Group Leaders and technical teams within the department
Build, develop, and sustain high-performing engineering and architecture teams
Oversee multiple concurrent data programs and workstreams, ensuring alignment to enterprise priorities
Drive modernization of legacy on-prem data platforms to cloud-based architectures
Ensure operational excellence of mission-critical EDW environments, balancing reliability with innovation
Serve as a trusted advisor to Finance and enterprise leadership on data architecture and platform strategy
Partner closely with other department heads to deliver integrated, enterprise-wide solutions
Lead PI planning, delivery execution, and cross-team dependency management
Establish governance, security, and data quality standards across the data ecosystem
Oversee vendor selection, tooling strategy, and architectural decision-making
Manage budget, staffing, and long-term workforce planning for the department
Key Functions
The Department Head will have responsibility across the following domains:
Leadership & Program Ownership
Provide direct leadership to Group Leaders and senior technical staff
Lead geographically distributed teams and manage multiple workstreams
Build and scale high-performing engineering and data architecture teams
Drive strategic planning and multi-year platform roadmap development
Oversee performance management, career development, and succession planning
Lead large-scale data programs and cross-functional delivery teams
Enterprise Data Architecture & Integration
Define and lead enterprise-scale data integration architecture
Oversee design of modern data warehousing and lakehouse architectures
Guide implementation of batch and real-time ingestion pipelines
Ensure strong dimensional modeling, data marts, and analytical data product development
Establish scalable, secure, and governed data platforms
Cloud & Platform Engineering
Lead AWS-based data platform strategy and implementation (Lake Formation, Redshift, S3, Glue, EMR, Lambda, IAM)
Guide modernization efforts leveraging cloud-native services
Oversee DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and containerized workloads
Ensure implementation of enterprise-grade data governance, security, and privacy controls
Evaluate and integrate Azure or Databricks capabilities where appropriate
Operational Excellence & Reliability
Ensure high availability and reliability of mission-critical EDW operations
Improve system reliability, data quality, and SLA performance
Oversee production monitoring, incident management, and root cause analysis processes
Balance platform stability with innovation and modernization efforts
Stakeholder & Business Partnership
Serve as primary executive liaison for enterprise data initiatives
Partner closely with Finance, Accounting, FP&A, and business leadership
Translate business requirements into scalable, sustainable technical solutions
Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior leadership
Strategic Thinking & Execution
Define and execute multi-year enterprise data platform strategy
Lead cloud migration and platform modernization programs
Make informed architectural, tooling, and vendor decisions
Drive innovation while ensuring enterprise alignment and compliance
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Math, Business, or related discipline
12+ years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, and enterprise data platforms
5+ years of experience leading large-scale data programs and cross-functional delivery teams
Demonstrated experience leading geographically distributed technical teams
Deep expertise in enterprise data warehousing, data integration, and modern data architectures
Strong experience with AWS-based data platforms (Lake Formation, Redshift, S3, Glue, EMR, Lambda, IAM)
Demonstrated success managing mission-critical EDW operations
Proven ability to improve system reliability, data quality, and operational performance
Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills
Experience defining and executing cloud migration and modernization strategies
Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions
This position requires a minimum of 60% hybrid on-site
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a related discipline
Prior experience leading enterprise data warehouse modernization initiatives
Experience with Azure and Databricks environments
Experience with Workday HCM, Deltek Costpoint, OneStream, or equivalent enterprise systems
Experience implementing enterprise data governance frameworks
Knowledge of containerized workloads and CI/CD pipelines
Experience managing vendor relationships and enterprise data platform tooling decisions
Prior experience leading modernization from on-network/on-prem data warehouse to cloud-based model
Strong written and oral communication skills

Salary compensation range and midpoint:
$196,000 - $245,000 - $294,000 Annual
