Kelly Services IT Service Technician in Beaumont, Texas

Job Title: IT Service Technician

Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30am – 4:00pm

Pay Rate: $22 per hour

Occasional Travel Required

Job Summary:

The IT Service Technician is responsible for supporting the organization’s computing and telecommunication network operations. This position is part of a collaborative team, performing installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting for cabling, computers, peripheral devices, networking equipment, telephones, and related systems. The Technician delivers exceptional customer service support for internal users’ hardware and software needs, and closely coordinates with Network Administrators, Programmers, and the IT Supervisor to accomplish departmental projects and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, install, and test a variety of computer equipment, peripherals, data communication, and computer network systems

  • Assemble, install, configure, and test computer equipment and local area network units using standard interface protocols

  • Ensure optimal functionality of computer-based training lab environments

  • Collaborate with manufacturer representatives and internal stakeholders on equipment installation and requirements

  • Complete work orders for equipment installation, device moves, network component creation, and hardware configuration (disk drives, data switches, etc.)

  • Utilize electronic test equipment (optical power meters, multimeters, computer-aided diagnostics) to identify and correct malfunctions

  • Calibrate test equipment and maintain accurate documentation

  • Develop and maintain inventory systems for software, hardware, and electronic components; manage warranty claims and vendor records

  • Provide hardware and software support to users for PCs, printers, and peripheral equipment

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot network infrastructure including hubs, switches, copper, and fiber cabling; fabricate and install data cables as needed

  • Perform preventive maintenance, maintain network/equipment documentation, and monitor spam/antivirus appliances for alerts and compliance

On-Call/After-Hours Duties:

  • Monitor email and phone for after-hours messages during assigned times

  • Respond to after-hours requests within a 15-minute window

  • Must maintain reliable home internet connection and appropriate hardware for remote response

Qualifications & Education:

  • Associate degree in Information Technology or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • Prior experience supporting Windows desktop operating systems required; Windows Server experience preferred

  • CompTIA A+ Certification desired; additional IT certifications a plus

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Windows Desktop Operating Systems (Windows 7, 8, 10)

  • Strong customer service, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Effective written and verbal communication; professionalism in interactions with internal/external customers

  • Demonstrated integrity and ability to handle confidential information

  • Able to work independently and in a team to achieve goals

Physical Demands:

  • Primarily sedentary with frequent lifting of up to 10 pounds, occasional lifting up to 25 pounds, rare lifting up to 50 pounds

  • Occasional walking and standing as needed

  • Must possess sufficient vision and hearing capabilities to perform job functions effectively

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to solve practical and abstract problems, handling variable situations where standardization may be limited

  • Competence in interpreting instructions presented in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form

Certification Requirements:

  • CompTIA A+ Certification preferred
