Cleveland Clinic Physical Environment Compliance Manager in Beachwood, Ohio

As Physical Environment Compliance Manager, you will oversee compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and AHJ requirements for the healthcare physical environment. This includes ensuring facilities, life safety systems, and PE programs meet standards set by the Joint Commission (JC), CMS, state and local regulators, and applicable codes. You lead monitoring, documentation, and improvement of processes such as life safety, fire protection, utilities management, emergency preparedness, and building maintenance, while partnering with Facilities, Safety, Infection Prevention, Clinical Operations, and external inspectors to maintain readiness and proactively address compliance risks.

A caregiver in this position works Monday - Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 a.m. Must be able to travel to different sites both in state and out of state on short notice.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Develop, implement, and manage the Physical Environment (PE) program and risk mitigation activities for the enterprise which includes but is not limited corrective action planning, conduct internal audits and tracers, interpret regulatory updates, and support staff education to ensure a safe, compliant, and survey‑ready environment.

  • Serve as a liaison with all levels of the organization and outside Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ's) agencies.

  • Oversee the PE Training Series for the enterprise.

  • Lead and perform PE Mock Surveys, Life Safety Assessments, physician integration rounding, and pre-acquisition reviews for both domestic and international locations.

  • Ensure enterprise systems are updated and evaluate trends to maintain continuous readiness mindset.

  • Assists with enterprise AHJ surveys within the Survey Operations Center (SOC) structure.

  • Perform pre-construction and post-construction surveys as applicable and provide a comprehensive deficiency report. Perform construction design sign offs as applicable.

  • Provide coverage when Director Facilities Compliance Services is unavailable.

  • Review and monitor adherence to enterprise policies and corporate compliance procedures.

  • Audit appropriate records, regulatory agency processes, and ensure facility managers submit accurate documents to surveyors by established deadlines.

  • Perform training activities and assist with capacity planning for staff and contract labor.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Compliance, Engineering, Environmental Science, Safety, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field Or ten years of experience may offset degree requirements

  • Six years of experience working with compliance for agencies such as Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportations (DOT), National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), building officials, JC, departments of health, CMS or the like

  • Certification as a Certified Safety Healthcare Professional (CHSP), or Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM), or other similar safety certification

  • Ability to work with employees, interdepartmental teams, and organizational leadership across the enterprise to effectively complete goals

  • Demonstrated team, leadership, organizational and problem-solving abilities

  • Strong computer base knowledge

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Master's degree

  • Healthcare experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment.

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.

  • Ability to travel to various locations throughout the health system Must have normal or corrected vision.

  • Must be able to clearly communicate verbally by phone or in person.

  • Must have own transportation to travel to multiple sites.

  • Periodic international travel is required.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum Annual Salary: $84,200.00

Maximum Annual Salary: $128,412.50

The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range displayed does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.).
