Pamlico County Board of Education Culinary Arts Teacher in Bayboro, North Carolina

Reports to : Principal and CTE Director

Term of Employment: Ten-month term

Salary: NC Salary Schedule for Teachers

Purpose:

The Culinary Arts Teacher delivers rigorous, standards-based instruction in culinary arts and food service management while leading a safe, professional kitchen learning environment. This role prepares students for post-secondary education and careers through hands-on training, industry certifications, critical thinking, and real-world application. Theteacher mentors students, adapts instruction to diverse needs, assesses progress, and collaborates with educators, industry partners, and the community to ensure students graduate career-ready and equipped with the technical, professional, and entrepreneurial skills needed for success in the modern food service industry.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator License in the area of Food and Nutrition/Culinary Arts
  • ServSafe manager certification
  • Industry-related work experience such as chef, restaurant manager, food service manager, dietitian, nutritionist, or catering manager within the past five years or associate's degree in culinary arts with four years of industry-related work experience within the past eight years
  • Professional chef certification preferred
  • Professional baking certification preferred

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates and teaches culinary arts in a classroom setting with professional kitchen equipment, food, beverage, and professional cookery, sanitation and professional food service management
  • Provides instruction and course/program management in the overall knowledge and application of kitchen management with front and back of the house skills of the food service industry
  • Demonstrates knowledge and implements a hands-on approach to critical thinking and problem solving skills needed for current and future food service industry employment standards
  • Prepares instructional materials, maintains equipment, and manages materials of instruction which maximize the resources needed to deliver effectively a diverse instructional program including student completion of the ServSafe examination
  • Maintains sanitation and facility standards within a commercial kitchen environment consistent with Pamlico County Environmental Health Food and Facility regulations
  • Runs an organized and industry related entrepreneurship project while maintaining a classroom setting
  • Supports culinary extracurricular activities by attendance and/or advisory role
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior required to provide an orderly and productive classroom environment
  • Evaluates each student's performance and growth in knowledge and understanding, and prepares progress reports
  • Displays strong communication skills to interact with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Demonstrates commitment to uphold policies and procedures of NCDPI and the Pamlico County Schools district
  • Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
