BAY METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY MECHANIC
FLSA: Non-Exempt from Overtime
GENERAL SUMMARY: {#general-summary data-start="476" end="502"}
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and Maintenance Foreman. Performs Maintenance Department activities, including the maintenance and repair of vehicles and auxiliary equipment.
This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to drug and alcohol testing as defined in Bay Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Drug & Alcohol Testing Policy for Safety Sensitive Employees.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES {#principal-duties data-start="906" end="930"}
Repairs and overhauls major chassis units such as motors, transmissions, clutches, differentials and brake systems.
Installs and repairs air compressors and air-conditioning units.
Installs and repairs safety devices and equipment.
Performs or assigns welding tasks.
Performs preventative maintenance on all vehicles.
Performs the repair on diesel engines.
Installs and repairs entire hydraulic and electrical systems
Performs other duties as required.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS {#reporting-relationships data-start="1430" end="1461"}
Reports to the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor and Vehicle Maintenance Assistant Supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE {#knowledgeeducationexperience data-start="1560" end="1598"}
High school plus specialized training equivalent to no less than 2 years of college level courses or technical training in vehicle repair.
Must possess skills to perform a wide variety of interrelated or nonstandard procedural assignments and resolve a wide range of problems requiring extended training.
Must posses a valid Michigan Commercial Drivers License with appropriate endorsements as required by Federal/State regulations.
Job requires no less than 2 years of previous job-related experience.
As a condition of continued employment, mechanics must have all required state certifications and exhibit the ability to progress from a C Mechanic to a B Mechanic within 1 year of hire date and progress from a B Mechanic to an A Mechanic within 1 year of achieving B Mechanic status.
