JOB OVERVIEW
The Director, Sales and HR Communications, provides strategic communications support and counsel to drive understanding, alignment and engagement among internal and external audiences about Sales and HR initiatives.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Reports solid line to Head of Communications & Philanthropy and works closely with all members of the Corporate Affairs team.
Partners with Chief Customer Officer and Chief Human Resources Officer, their leadership teams as well as others within the organization.
Acts as back-up to the Senior Manager, Internal Communications (as necessary).
Oversees budget and work of outside vendors, freelancers and agency partners in support of Sales and HR.
Position will have strong internal relationships and cross-functional collaboration with Sales leaders, Human Resources leaders, Total Rewards leaders, Wellbeing & Sustainable Business leaders and others (e.g. Growth team, U.S Retail Sales Leadership Team).
This is a Hybrid role based in our Battle Creek, Michigan Corporate Headquarters. Position requires approximately 15% travel.
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Sales – 50%
Leads, develops and executes an annual strategic communications plan for internal and external (customer) audiences that advances the Sales organization’s priorities.
Provides internal and external communications support to the Chief Customer Officer (e.g., Quarterly Sales Connect townhalls; annual customer sales meeting, U.S. national retail sales meeting, thought leadership/industry engagement requests and opportunities, etc.)
Develops a variety of communications materials including remarks, messages and video scripts.
Drives reactive and proactive communications strategies for significant Sales initiatives, including confidential and highly sensitive key corporate strategic initiatives and change projects.
Serves as member of the Sales Leadership Team.
Human Resources – 50%
Leads, develops and executes an annual strategic communications plan for internal audiences that advances the HR organization’s priorities and signature people strategy.
Provides internal (and occasional external) communications support to the Chief Human Resources Officer (e.g., Quarterly HR Connection Sessions and signature events, people strategy development and implementation, thought leadership/industry engagement requests and opportunities, etc.).
Develops a variety of communications materials including remarks, messages and video scripts.
Drives reactive and proactive communications strategies for significant HR initiatives, including confidential and highly sensitive key corporate strategic initiatives and change projects.
Serves as member of the HR Leadership Team.
QUALIFICATIONS
10+ years of experience in communications, preferably with a mid- to large-size, publicly traded or private company. Food industry experience preferred.
Strategic thinker with the ability to drive both internal and external communications programs from inception to completion.
Strong internal and external communications consulting skills with the ability to work effectively with senior leaders.
Strong and versatile writer with the ability to create compelling messages that provide all levels of employees with a clear line of sight to business strategy.
Ability to identify and analyze business and audience needs to deliver messages via the most appropriate mix of channels and/or media.
Creative thinker that can produce innovative, high-quality and accurate work in a wide range of visual media, including video and graphics.
Experience in building relationships and driving cross-functional collaboration with key partners throughout the organization.
Able to meet tight deadlines and to juggle multiple priorities, while flawlessly executing on projects in a fast-paced, often pressured environment.
Independent, self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects at once.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, journalism or related field with a proven ability to understand communications principles and practices and the intellectual curiosity to learn new approaches.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and possess a high level of accuracy with information.
Required to work in fast-paced environment often interrupted with immediate support requirements. Must be able to prioritize work on a daily basis.
Workload may demand working extended hours and weekends as necessary.
Salary Range: $168,560 - $210,700
Salary pay ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, certifications, qualifications, relevant education or training, and local market conditions.
