Step into a hands-on laboratory role where your work directly supports public health and environmental safety. You’ll work within the Environmental Chemistry Laboratory Section, which performs organic, inorganic, and trace metals analyses. The incumbent will be responsible for performing support functions in the Lead and Copper Laboratory.

Minimum Qualifications
Two years of general laboratory experience; OR
Completion of an accredited clinical laboratory or medical laboratory technology program; OR
An associate or bachelor’s degree in medical technology, nursing, clinical laboratory science, or a biological, physical, or chemical science; OR
Certification as a Laboratory Animal Technician or Laboratory Animal Technologist by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every six semester hours earned from an accredited college or university in any of the biological, physical, chemical, or agricultural sciences will substitute for one year of experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Positions in Human Testing Laboratory environments must be licensed to practice as either a Laboratory Assistant or a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Technician in the State of Louisiana as required by Louisiana Clinical Laboratory Personnel Law R.S. 37:1311-1329 and the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Perform support functions within the Environmental Chemistry Laboratory, assisting with organic, inorganic, and trace metals analyses.
Log incoming samples, verify that they meet acceptance criteria, and ensure proper documentation prior to analysis.
Maintain strict adherence to chain of custody procedures in accordance with laboratory standards and Environmental Protection Agency regulations.
Utilize the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to accurately log, track, and manage sample data throughout the testing process.
Conduct turbidity testing on metals samples to support laboratory analysis and reporting requirements.
Participate in annual and quarterly quality control and proficiency testing to ensure accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
Support drinking water testing initiatives, particularly within the Lead and Copper Laboratory, to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Familiarity with drinking water testing is preferred.
